WORTH LIVING FOR.

When this world is finished - when land and sea, sun and stars have served their purpose, replaced by a new Heaven and a new Earth - one certainty will be shared by the entire population of Heaven. Jesus Christ is worth living for.

Those who lived for Him here, will have no regrets there. Those who live for Him now will have no regrets then. Today there are millions of His followers around the world who have discovered the full life He gives to all who know Him.

“I have come,” He said, “so that they may have life in all its fulness.”

HIS CLOSEST FRIENDS DISCOVERED IT.
There was a time when crowds who had followed Jesus began to leave Him. He turned to His close friends, men who had travelled with Him and knew Him well, and asked, “Will you also go away?”

Peter answered for them all. “Lord to whom shall we go - you have the words of eternal life.”

Soon after this Peter also declared, “You are God’s Messiah” and then, “Even if everyone leaves you I will not. I will go with you to prison and death.” Although at that time Peter failed to carry out this promise, he did eventually endure whipping, prison and death for his Lord. Those disciples knew that Jesus Christ was worth living for - and no one knew Jesus better than they did.

PAUL DISCOVERED IT.
Writing from prison to his friends at Philippi, Paul told them:-

“Everything I used to value so much, I now consider worthless compared with the excellency of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have actually lost all I had, for Him. But I treat it all as rubbish so that I may gain Christ.

I want to be found in Him without any of my own rightness which came from keeping the rules. No, I want the rightness which is given by God to those who trust Christ.

And I want to know Him - to go on knowing Him better - to discover the power of His resurrection - to share with Him in His suffering. Let me die with Him if only I can reach His resurrection from the dead. I have not arrived yet, I am far from complete, but I am going for it.

Oh, let me take hold of that same purpose for which Christ Jesus has taken hold of me. My brothers and sisters, I know I have not taken hold of it yet. Just one thing - forgetting the past and stretching forward to what is ahead, I am running flat out to reach the finishing tape - the prize - the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:7-14)

MANY PEOPLE TODAY HAVE DISCOVERED IT -
including me (or I would not be writing this). I found Christ when I was young and still follow Him now I am old. So have many others. Ask someone who knows Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, how they found Him and what difference He makes to their present lives.

HE IS WORTH LIVING FOR BECAUSE:-
He is the one by whom and for whom everything was made and the purpose of all that exists is that He should stand supreme.

He willingly suffered and died for us; so that our sins can be forgiven. No one has greater love than one who dies for his friends - but Jesus died for us while we were still His enemies. He died in order to make us His friends.

He is the best friend anyone can have. Knowing Him puts purpose and sense into life. His presence illumines all other relationships, all achievements and all experiences. Shared with Him, joys are multiplied and sorrows are divided.

He takes away the fear of death. By Him we are forgiven and made fit to meet Him beyond the grave.

He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords and He shall reign for ever and ever.

YOU CAN KNOW HIM FOR YOURSELF.
He said, “I will never reject anyone who comes to me.” It takes only a short prayer to accept Him as Saviour and Lord, but it begins a relationship which lasts for ever.

This relationship then goes on growing. As we read of Him in the Bible, we discover that knowing about Him becomes knowing Him.

As we share each day and hour and minute with Him, He means more and more to us all through life.

HIS PEOPLE BECOME OUR PEOPLE.
Knowing Christ joins us to a worldwide and eternal family. All who are joined to Him are joined to each other.

This vast number of new relationships is both exciting and frightening because every one has human weakness and faults. Christ is working on us, changing us, putting His new life into us, but the change will not be complete until we are in Heaven with Him. Meanwhile we have to live with each other, forgiving and being forgiven because we are not yet what we should be or what we shall be.

LIFE DOES NOT BECOME COMFORTABLE
when we follow Jesus Christ. We are not freed from suffering or disappointment. He who suffered on the cross shares our whole lives including our pain. He stays with us through it. He stays with us through death.

HIS TASK BECOMES OUR TASK.
Finally, those who have discovered the joy of knowing Christ, are given a task. News of Him is to be shared with others. We encourage our friends to become His friends. Our lives demonstrate to the world that:-

HE IS WORTH LIVING FOR!
