Along time in the past, St Andrews church used to be the furthest building West of Gorleston, being bordered by two dirt tracks of Church Road and Pound Lane. Pound Lane's name was altered when the new tarmac road was laid (slightly off from the original roads course) and the new name of Middleton Road was founded. Pound Lane still exists in a shortened form further to the South.
Pound Lane was so called because Gorleston's Town Pound was situated at the end of it next to the church and at the end of the current Middleton Gardens (Road) which was the original course of Pound Lane.
Situated at the Northern end of the High Street, Priory Gardens used to be a small part of the larger Priory Complex which covered a large part of the Northwestern side of Gorleston. Many Archaelogical excavations have taken place here over the years.
