My musical views turned full circle when I purchased this album, as the last time I bought and OCS album it was one of the first I ever bought. I immediately discarded it as rubbish, and maintained that view until last update's humble apology.
Anyway, the successful single Prophet in Peace opens the album and is the highlight of the album. So Low however, is also a brilliant Beatles-style song and I am the News is a blatant crack at the press following Simon Fowler's recent 'outing' by the tabloids.
OCS are often critisised for their retro style, but it's present in abundance on tracks such as Families, July and the curiously titled Jane She Got Excavated. Whatever your view on their style, no-one does it better than the Ocean Colour Scene boys (and girl).
Other tracks such as Emily Chambers, Soul Driver, The Waves and Step by Step are simply what we've come to expect from Ocean Colour Scene, most songs carrying a message with a blues-cum-indie beat. The retro guitar-style is also dominant throughout. Superb!
