At the time of the 1881 census, Henry Morgan and his family were living at Carpenter’s Yard, Llanofer.
Henry MORGAN, aged 32, was born in Lougher, Glamorgan. He was a foreman stone mason. His wife was
Ann MORGAN, also aged 32, who had been born in Dowlais, Glamorgan. Their children were
John MORGAN, aged 5, born in Dowlais,
Charlotte H. MORGAN,aged 4, born in Dowlais,
Thomas MORGANaged 2, born in Llanofer, and
David Robert MORGANaged 6 months, born in Llanofer.
Henry Morgan died in January 1884 of cancer of the stomach.
In a letter to Dafydd Williams (under-agent) sent from London in April 1884, Lady Llanofer enquired about what work had been done in the garden at Bwthyn Penyrheol and three months later, July 19th 1884, Ann Morgan wrote from Bwthyn Penyrheol to thank Her Ladyship for her continuing kindness towards her and her children.
There is an entry in Dafydd Williams's account book, dated 5th July 1884, showing that Mary Walters had been paid four shillings for washing and airing Bwthyn Penyrheol; was she preparing it for the bereaved young family?
Sadly this was not the end of grief for Ann Morgan. In September 1887, her son Thomas died, aged nine. The cause of death was given as Acute Dyspepsia.
In 1886 Ann Morgan, stonemason's widow, was listed as one of the 'Poor Receiving Clothes in Llanofer'; and again in 1888 there is a similar reference.
In 1891, Ann Morgan was living in the parish of Goytrey, 'Nr. Penty', with her sons John, 15, stonemason; Dafydd [David] R, 10; Henry C, 9; and daughter Blodwen E, 7. All were listed as speaking only Welsh. Charlotte Morgan, 14, was a general servant at the Ty Uchaf.  She spoke both Welsh and English.
