After qualifying I moved to London in 1983 and became a Director of Jennings Ross Associates, London, in 1984 and developed my management and design skills mainly in the Commercial, Industrial and Telecommunication sectors of the Market. The main clients being British Telecom and the PSA. The work included offices and computer centres throughout England The offices and computer centre for BT in Ipswich won a craftsmanship award 1986 and the extension a craftsmanship award in 1988 for materials and workmanship. I was also involved with Grade 1 listed buildings including the Palace of Westminster, London and the Holloway Sanatorium, Virginia Waters and various projects in conservation areas.

In 1990 I took over Jennings Ross on the retirement of the Senior Directors and formed Hendry & Oakshett. I broadened my skills by carrying out more work in the Hotels and Leisure sector of the market as well as one off individual houses. The Company achieved QA and became a Corporate Membership of the Civic Trust in 1991, due to the design and detailing of Broom Villa, Fulham, London (described as “the last Country house in Fulham”).
