Chris
Groom has been the band's musical director since 1991,
and has built on solid foundations to achieve the position
the band currently enjoys. Chris is the son of Trevor
Groom, renowned as one of the country's best Euphonium
players. After leaving school, Chris joined the Scots
Guards, when he trained at Kneller Hall and played French
Horn for 6 years. On leaving the Guards, he spent 8
years with Championship Section Bands in Yorkshire.
He then returned to the Midlands and joined the GUS
Band, where he played Principal Horn for five years.
Chris currently works as a peripetetic music teacher
at Loughborough Grammar School, Loughborough University
and Kimbolton School.
