The Band

After rehearsing on Sunday 16th September 2001 for the Second Section of the
National Brass Band Championships held in Preston on September 23rd 2001

We are based in the East Midlands town of Market Harborough
in Leicestershire, England.

The Harborough Band performs at various events throughout the year, including concert performances (either organised by the band, or on behalf of another party who can book the band for a fee). The band has an extensive repertoire, and can cater for the needs of most occasions, demonstrating the versatility of a brass band. A typical programme may consist of Marches, Overtures, Mellow music, TV & Film music, Classical pieces, Popular music, Solos and/or section performances and light entertainment.

The Harborough Band is a contesting band, and currently holds a relatively stable position in the top half of the second section national grading. Along with its annual trip in March to the National Brass Bands Championship, Midlands Area contest held in Burton upon Trent, the band tries to attend other contests during the year. Contests really focus the band on playing well and working as a unit.

On March 3rd 2001 the band won Third Prize in the Second Section of the Midland Area Regional Championships - thus qualifying for the National Finals which were held in Preston on Sunday September 23rd 2001. Here the Band achieved Sixth place - Harborough Band's greatest achievement in 104 years!

Individuals from the band also participate in the Leicestershire Brass Band Association Junior and Senior Solo, Duet and Quartet contests, held twice yearly. In recent years the band has enjoyed a high degree of success at these events, winning sections outright on several occasions.
