The Harborough Band On-line

Local Supporters & Charity donations

The band not only consists of playing members, but also friends and family of band members who in their own way provide the support and assistance that the band needs to function. Many non-playing members are Vice Presidents, which enables them to keep in contact with the band, and also to support the band, be it physically, financially or supporting the band at contests and other events.

Oompah Evening - Irthlingborough
Several members of the Band turned themselves into an "Oompah Band" for a German Evening in Irthlingborough in April 2003.
A donation of £20 was made to the RNLI from this engagement

2002 Carolling Donation
10% of our Carolling money is donated to a local charity -
in 2002 we have chosen the local branch of Macmillan Cancer Relief and are delighted to have handed over a cheque for £600.

2001 Carolling Donation
£600 was donated to the Lenthall House Comforts Fund from the Carolling proceeds of 2001. This local Care Home was chosen because they looked after Pat Achurch (wife of Stan, our most loyal supporter/Vice President) for a couple of weeks to give Stan a much needed rest. Unfortunately Pat died shortly after Christmas but the residents of Lenthall House were delighted with our donation (apparently the most they have ever been given in one sum) & it will allow them to have a few more treats this year!

Many thanks to the local organisations, companies & general public of Market Harborough who supported our Fund Raising efforts for the National Finals fund. We achieved 6th place in the second section of the National Brass Band Championships on September 23rd 2001.
Donations were received from:
J & M Oils, The Cherry Tree Pub, K & G Roskrow, Market Harborough Round Table, Market Harborough Building Society, Floral Craft, Tilley & Saunders, Godfrey Payton, Brown & Co, Market Harborough Rotary Club, Andrew Granger & Co, Hefford Johnson & Co, Bray & Bray, Shire Press, ET Peirson & Sons, Market Harborough Lions Club, Wilkinsons,
H Monk& Sons, & Bestfoods UK

The Harborough Band does not only raise money for itself. Each year 10% of the carol playing profit is given back to a local charity. In 1998 £350 was donated to the local special needs playgroup, and in 1999 £350 was donated to the local Victims of Crime Group.
In 2000 £465 of the carolling money was donated to the Market Harborough Shopmobility charity

In 1998, on the hottest day in August, several members of the band played hymns in St Marys Place, Market Harborough, taking part in a "sponsored blow". Over £400 was raised that afternoon for the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at Papworth Hospital which is where local sufferers of this disease are treated.
