I hope you don't mind my writing to you. I've read
your Brycheiniog articles and I found references to you in the Royal
Commission report on Brecknock monuments and when I searched the web
for items on Welsh archeology.
I saw recently the remains of buildings on the west slope of the
Twrch just north of Frydiau Twrch (ref about SN 771 165). I suspect
from your writings that you might be able to guide me to sources of
information on them. Apart from simple stone outlines there was one
long building outline with a limekiln attached which must have been
relatively recent. An unlikely place for a farmhouse if that's what
it was, I thought. There was limestone nearby. The location seemed
unlikely for any settlements but I guess things might have been very
different in those times.

I hope you will forgive me for posting this - it is not myself however I have watched this gentleman, Paul Muir, lecture previously (throughout the world) and his findings are intelligent and visionary.
He is a serious scientist who has entirely dedicated the past few years of his life to bringing his work to the public eye - he makes no money from this and the door charge simply covers the cost of putting on the Talk (venue hire etc).
Paul is the most genuine individual I have ever met and has time for every single person who comes to him for information. He has encounter experiences surrounding Megalithic structures that defy conventional logic until you actually listen to his explaination which is enitrely grounded and of sound scientific basis.
I am urging anyone with a genuine interest to pop along, not to support him but to support their own desire to learn new information about the relevance of UK Standing Stone sites.
Most of his audiences are people just like yourself who are not scientists or professionally in the field of archeology but who appreciate that this structures are not simply ancient markers or art forms and very much more than burial chambers.
The following is lifted from one of his Flyers.
The ‘theory of everything’
Glastonbury Town Hall
Thursday 30th March 2006
A fascinating and unique Talk on the findings of investigations carried out since 1996 by a team of British researchers into the source of naturally occurring phenomena including energy orbs, electromagnetic fields, Ley Lines and their effects on our day to day lives.
Who should attend?
The Presentation has been carefully structured to be absorbing for members of the general public as well as genuine technical value to the scientist.
► Innovative understanding of the scientific explanations behind natural energy processes affecting quantum and astro physics, biochemistry and health epidemiology.
► Members of the general public interested in the origins of mankind, with a particular slant to the builders of Britain’s oldest ancient monuments, electromagnetic emission, Ley Lines and the expansive Neolithic use of natural energy.
► All interested in the impact of the imminent return of this knowledge
(Please Note: all research findings and data is copyrighted pending publication and we would therefore advise that reproduction of presented material is strictly prohibited)).
The talk includes unseen photographs and video footage which unlock some of the most ancient understandings of humanity and its links to creation.
Doors open at 7.00 pm for 7.15 pm
Admission £3.50
"In my opinion the theory here is the logically simplest relativistic field theory that is at all possible. But this does not mean that nature might not obey a more complex theory. More complex theories have frequently been proposed. . . In my view, such more complicated systems and their combinations should be considered only if there exist physical-empirical reasons to do so." Einstein

cheers = skull
in these languages: The Danish, Norwegian, Swedish (skål) and Icelandic (skál) drinking toast has a rather macabre background; it originally meant skull. The word has come down from a custom practiced by the warlike and terrorist Vikings who used the dried-out skulls of their enemies as drinking mugs, with the evident advantage that the mug held a large quantity of mead and could be easily replaced. The viking influence on todays Scandinavian language, and in particular mentioned the danish etc word for "cheers" (skal) came from olden day slaying of people and the associated use of the top of the skull as a drinking vessel.
..Sweden was silently pursuing principles of racial purity. During those 41 years, some 60,000 Swedes were sterilized as misfits who did not meet the ideal of the blond, blue-eyed Scandinavian.
..the Swedish government has the nationalistic ideology called 'Nordism' which teaches the Swedes to hate Finnish language and its speakers, ordinary Finns.

How do I find out if a very large lump of stone, in an odd place (it's appeared after a winter land slide) is a recognised standing stone/burial site or just a lump of stone? Is there a recognised register of these things?

So lovely to revisit your site. It really is terrific. You may remember you came for a visit to http://www.angelfire.com/home/thefaery/index.html a while ago, and we had a very pleasant conversation about the 'wood henges' that predated stone circles in central Europe and Britain. I wanted to email you but I've had a virus and I'm not sure I'm safe to contact yet! So if you don't mind, I'll mention here what I wanted to say, which is that we tend to assume the 'wood henges' are circles like the stone ones, when in fact they seem to have been just pillars for circular community meeting houses. Some pillars were arranged not in single circles but in several concentric circles, to support large roofs. I've been too used to calendar rings, which didn't appear (in the north, anyway) until early in the third millennium. I've assumed a connection with them whenever I've seen a circular pattern!

I believe, from my modest study of Welsh history (and my mother's birthplace - Festignog), that the standing stones of Wales were clan markers delineating tribal land. They were originally decorated with tribal colours and symbols significant to the incumbent clan members. I have no evidence to support this theory just an educated hunch and a feeling 'in the blood'. Thanks for your time and let me know whether you agree or no.
