MERTON ABBEY MILLS

the Wheel house

..is one of the original buildings which made up the old Liberties Printworks. The water wheel was used to drive the rinsing spools and dates back to 1885. It is one of the finest surviving waterwheels in London and each weekend during the regular craft market it turns again.

today the power that is generated by the wheel is used to drive the potters wheel and lathe in the modern pottery housed here.

Abbey Mills Gallery & Tea House

Another building that was part of the former printworks is now a gallery and tea-room, selling water-colours, prints, engravings etc. as well as lunches and cream teas.

Also at the mills is a weekend craft market which has regular entertainment and events. Open every Saturday, Sunday 10am to 5pm and most Bank holidays.
