Keith Hollinshead has been our adjudicator at Delph since 1988. Keith has just completed his 50th year in the brass band movement and since his early days in Wigan Boys' Club under the tutelage of William Haydock (ex Bickershaw Colliery), has played with a number of bands, most notably Haigh, Cammell Lairds, Wingates and Hoggarths, in addition to assisting other bands from time to time.
One of the highlights of his career was being a member of the Wingages Quartet which won the National Championship in 1969. He was also leader of Wingates on their tour of Holland in the same year.
Keith was the initiator, along with the late Harry Mortimer CBE, in founding the British Open Solo and Quartet Championships under the auspices of Wigan Metropolitan Council. He was privileged to help Harry Mortimer with the arrangements for the Grand Shield and British Open contests in addition to being H.M.'s companion and "minder" at many functions and events in this great man's later years.
Currently Personnel Manager with JJB Sports Plc (Europe's largest sports retailer), Keith continues to assist with the arrangements for the British Open. He is a trustee of the Harry Mortimer Memorial Fund and the author of the book "The Major and his Band" which he wrote to perpetuate the memory of Bickershaw Band and his first tutor William Haydock.
Keith is a Licentiate of the Trinity College of London and also holds a Diploma in Municipal Administration gained during his first career as a Principal Officer in the local government service. Following his local government service, he worked for Wigan Music Service as a Peripatetic brass teacher and was responsible for the success of many young players, several of whom went on to take up solo positions in some of the countries' leading bands.

For several years now all bands booking in at Delph Contest, have been sponsored by generous friends living in and around our village. This fun scheme saves bands their booking in fee and also gives the sponsor the chance to win £50.00 should they be lucky enough to sponsor the winning band. Sponsors are already "signing up" at the band club and just before our contest magazine goes to print, a draw is made in the club and each sponsor allocated a number, the table of sponsors is published in our Delph Whit Friday Magazine and the lucky owner of the winning band number receives a £50.00 cash prize. This sponsorship is much appreciated by bands when they arrive, it saves time, money and hassle! The committee can assure all sponsors that their support is very much appreciated both by competing bands and those administering the contest.
