These web pages are run
in conjunction with the above Centre which is located in Bunessan on the
Isle of Mull.
The Centre was established in 1997 to act as a repository for artifacts
relating to life and those that have lived on the Ross of Mull. The Ross
is the penisular that forms the western end of the base of the island.
It now has a number of displays which it seeks to expand on :-
-
Emigration - Maps, letters, photographs, Settlement paper records
-
Family Records - Family trees, histories, old photographs. The following
is an extract from the Centre's January 2000 Newsletter :-
HISTORICAL DATABASE
records for the Ross are being collated in a computer database.
The progress of our database is due to Mary McLean Hoff, Tom Aitchison
and Margaret Carson, who inform us that The Census Records for Kilfinichen
and Kilviceon as well as the Quod Sacra Parish of lona from 1841 through’to
1891 have now almost been completely transferred onto an Access Database
and can be used for instantaneous searches by Family Name or Location in
the Ross or lona. Mary MacLean Hoff is at present entering the Old
Parish Records covering births, christenings and marriages from 1804 to
1854 into a further database which will eventually be linked to the Census
Database and other databases covering Canadian Emigrants, School Rolls
etc. Hopefully, many of these will be available for general use in the
centre from early in 2000.
(Please note that the family records correctly being collated by the
Centre relate only to the Ross whereas the family details on the web pages
cover the whole of the island. The Centre has a long term plan to collate
records for the other two parishes on the island.)

marble quarries.
