England qualified for the second phase by coming second in Group F and now face Denmark who won Group A. This game is to be played on Saturday 15th June at 12.30pm (British Summer time) in Niigata, Japan. The last time England played Denmark was in a friendly game on 9 March 1994 at Wembley when England won 1-0 with a goal from David Platt.

After England's exhausting game in the heat against Nigeria when they drew 0-0 there may be some changes to the England team for the second phase match against Denmark. Eriksson will not want to change his team too much but it will have to cope with the dangerous Danish wingers who can provide quality balls to centre forward Jon Dahl Tomasson. Tomasson has already scored four goals in the group stages of the tournament but there is some doubt as to whether he will start against England as he picked up a groin injury in Denmark's win over France.

Owen Hargreaves has been ruled out of the game against Denmark with a shin injury that he picked up at the start of the game against Argentina. He apparently does have a good chance of  recovering in time for the quarter final game if England qualify.
