Having lost to France, England then beat Switzerland and Croatia to progress to the quarter finals by coming second in Group B. England then had a difficult quarter final match against the home side Portugal and lost on penalties to go out of Euro 2004.

The home side Portugal then beat Holland 2-1 in the semi final before losing to Greece 1-0 in the final. Angelos Charisteas headed in the only goal of the final from a corner after 57 minutes. Please click here for the full list of Euro 2004 matches.
