ENGLAND v Holland _________________________________________________________________________ This friendly between England and Holland is to be played on Wednesday 13 February 2002 at the Ajax Stadium in Holland at 7.30pm GMT. The squad for the match is shown below: The 24 man England squad is: Martyn James Wright G Neville Campbell Ferdinand Wayne Brisge P Neville Southgate Ledley King Chris Powell Beckham Gerrard Scholes Butt Darren Anderton Joe Cole Frank Lampard Sinclair Heskey Owen Michael Ricketts Darius Vassell Kevin Phillips There were new call ups for defenders Wayne Bridge (Southampton) and Ledley King (Tottenham) and strikers Darius Vassell (Aston Villa) and Michael Ricketts (Bolton). Strikers Andy Cole, Robbie Fowler and Teddy Sheringham were rested to try new talent and there were no places in the side for Le Saux (Chelsea) or McManaman who is finding it hard to get a game at present for Real Madrid. Kieron Dyer was injured three weeks before this squad was announced, which was unfortunate as he was playing well for his club Newcastle at the time. Darren Anderton, Trevor Sinclair and Michael Owen pulled out of the squad after it was announced through injury. The last time these teams met, England lost 2-0 to Holland at White Hart Lane, London on August 15, 2001. This was a friendly game to warm up for the group qualifier away to Germany (which England won 5-1). The England team then was Martyn (James 45, Wright 49), G Neville (Mills 45), Keown (Ehiogu 49), Brown (Southgate 45), Ashley Cole (Powell 45), Beckham (Carrick 45), Scholes (Lampard 45), Carragher, Hargreaves (Barmby 45), Andy Cole (Smith 70), Fowler (Owen 45). ![]() England lost in the first half to a Van Bommel shot from a free kick 35 yards out on 38 minutes and a Van Nistelrooy goal a minute later. England played poorly and were easily dominated, especially in the first half - Campbell and Ferdinand were both missed at centre back, Fowler was showing signs of lack of match fitness and England were over-run in midfield.
