It has been disclosed that the England right back Danny Mills was hit by an Argentine player in the tunnel following England's 1-0 victory on 7 June 2002.

Danny Mills said "Yes that did happen" but that it was all part of the game. He said that he did not see which Argentine player hit him and the matter would not be taken any further.

Mills was known before the World Cup to have a short temper and discipline problems but he kept his cool when the Argentines were trying to wind him up during the match and had a very good game for England.

Paul Scholes was verbally abused by Argentine players when giving a match interview after the game and some England players were being spat at by the opposition during the game.

After the game had finished, Trevor Sinclair was drug tested and in a rush to catch up the rest of the squad he went on to the Argentinean team coach by mistake. "There was not too much smiling going on" said Sinclair and he made a sharp exit.

Owen Hargreaves is still injured and so will not be available for the England game against Nigeria on 12 June. Trevor Sinclair is therefore favourite to take his place on the left wing after filling in so well against Argentina when he came on as an early substitute. The other alternative is to include Kieron Dyer on the left wing if the England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson decides to go for a more attacking midfielder. Eriksson will probably leave the rest of the England team unchanged.
