Kieron Dyer had been training with the England squad for the last couple of days and today the England manager, Sven Goran Eriksson confirmed that Kieron Dyer is fit enough to be included in the final squad of 23 players for the World Cup 2002 finals.

Eriksson said that Dyer had worked very hard by putting in an extra six or seven hours a day training to be fit for the World Cup. The Under 21 squad reserves Alan Smith and David Dunn were on standby but will not now be required.

Eriksson also said "We are ready. It is the World Cup and the players are hungry and I am hungry. There will be more fire from the players than we saw in the recent friendly games. I am sure of that".

Kieron Dyer said that after talking with Eriksson he does not think that he will start the game against Sweden but that he may well come on as a substitute. Dyer said that he has now recovered from his injury and he knew last Sunday that he was going to make the finals - he said he went on the pitch after England's 2-2 draw against Cameroon and "was doing sprints and realised I had a great chance"

Dyer also paid respect to his Newcastle United club manager, Bobby Robson for giving him hope when he thought that his chance of competing in the World Cup squad was all over - see the history on Dyer's injury here.
