The England manager, Sven Goran Eriksson has said that his captain, David Beckham, will play in the match against Argentina on Friday 7 June 2002 despite only lasting 63 minutes in the 1-1 draw against Sweden.

Eriksson said that Beckham's foot was OK but that he needs match fitness - Eriksson highlighted that he came off because he was tired but that he did well for the first 40 minutes of the match. Eriksson said that it might have been dangerous to let him stay on any longer but that he will hopefully play for more than an hour against Argentina.

Eriksson also said that he thought that the whole team seemed tired at the end of the Sweden game as "you get tired quickly when you can't keep the ball" and have to chase the ball. He said that maybe a more experienced team would have handled the problems differently in the second half.

Eriksson gave notice that there may be small changes to the team to face Argentina but he has not finally decided yet - "We have two or more training sessions to decide on the team" he said.
