PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL PREDICTIONS 2001/2002 Every other week this site will be updated for the prediction of the England FA Barclaycard Premiership league table for the 2001/2002 season. Every prediction made on 10 February was a guess based on how each team was playing in the season to the start of February 2002 - it is quite possible that any team could improve dramatically and make the predictions inaccurate - as the real results come in the table will be updated for the actual results (although the future predicted results will not be changed). *** See the real final Premiership table below *** Final table prediction on 27 April 2002 (after all teams have played 38 games)
Report on 27 April 2002 *** Chelsea were originally predicted to come fifth and Leeds sixth - if Chelsea can beat Aston Villa at home they would come fifth but the prediction back in February was for a 1-1 draw which may only be good enough for 6th place *** *** Chelsea lost to Aston Villa on 11 May and so came sixth with Leeds coming fifth *** Blackburn is now also doing better than predicted at the bottom end of the table and will not go down. Ipswich are are predicted to lose away to Liverpool on the last day of the season to be relegated with Derby and Leicester. Sunderland have been predicted to beat Derby at home to stay up. *** Note Leicester, Derby and Blackburn were originally predicted to go down in February with Bolton and Ipswich predicted to just escape relegation - congratulations to Blackburn for staying up - the confidence they got from getting to the Worthington Cup final and then winning it probably helped their league results *** *** Ipswich lost their final game away to Liverpool 5-0 on May 11 and so were relegated with Derby and Leicester ***
The final table (after all games completed on 11 May) was:
