Trinidad and Tobago's goalkeeper Kelvin Jack was injured in the warm up and so Shaka Hislop (West Ham United) replaced him in the starting line up. They also started with just Stern John in attack. Anders Svensson was selected ahead of Kallstrum for Sweden.

From a free kick Larsson (Barcelona) shot just wide after only four minutes of the match. Then after 22 minutes he just failed to connect to a cross from Ibrahimovic. Carlos Edwards then had a good shot at Sweden's goal from outside the box after 33 minutes.

In the ten minutes before half time Sweden had several chances to score. After 37 minutes of the match Larsson headed over the bar from a good position. As half time approached, Hislop was called into action as he turned over a powerful shot from Wilhelmsson and then dived to his right to prevent Ibrahimovic from scoring.

Avery John was sent off at the start of the second half after a foul on Wilhelmsson. In the second half Sweden had many more chances to score but it was Trinidad and Tobago who hit the post with a rare attack after 58 minutes. Hislop put in a superb performance in goal for Trinidad and Tobago with several second half saves.

Trinidad and Tobago's most famous player Dwight Yorke (ex Manchester United) was used as a midfielder and played a lot of the game just in front of the back four rather than his more familiar role as striker - this was a good decision by their manager as Yorke also had a great game in that position to help prevent Sweden from scoring.
