Sweden beat Paraguay 1-0 with an 88th minute goal from Freddie Ljungberg on 15 June 2006 in their second World Cup 2006 game.

Sweden's line up was: Isaksson, Linderoth, Mellberg, Lucic, Edman, Ljungberg, Alexandersson, Kallstrom (Elmander 86), Wilhelmsson (Johnson 67), Ibrahimovic (Allback 46), Larsson

The team from Paraguay was Bobadilla, Caniza, Gamarra, Caceres, Nunez, Bonet (Barreto 81), Acuna, Paredes, Riveros (Santos 61), Valdez, Santa Cruz (Lopez 62)

Kim Kallstrom was picked ahead of Anders Svensson for this match and he forced an excellent diving save from Aldo Bobadilla (goalkeeper from Paraguay) after 9 minutes of the match. Christian Wilhelmsson then put a chance just wide.

Sweden had the better of the first half with strikers Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic both having chances but Jorge Nunez could have given Paraguay the lead with a shot that went wide.

Marcus Allback replaced Ibrahimovic up front for Sweden at the start of the second half. In the 53rd minute Roberto Acuna brought Freddie Ljungberg down just outside the box  and Bobadilla had to dive to his left to save Larsson's free kick.

Paraguay got a couple of fortunate offside decisions while defending before Allback broke the offside trap and lobbed the ball over Bobadilla - Caniza stopped the ball going into the net with a goal line clearance. Larsson then headed over for Sweden before Nunez and Barretto had chances for Paraguay.

Allback (out of shot to the left) headed back across goal for Ljungberg to head in to the goalkeeper's right

After 88 minutes Sweden got a deserved goal when Ljungberg headed in after Allback put a header across the penalty box. Ljungberg could have got a second in injury time but forced Bobadilla into a great diving save.

This result sent Paraguay out of the World Cup 2006 but Sweden could still finish top of the group if they beat England in their next match.
