ENGLAND v TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO PREVIEW World Cup 2006 home page _________________________________________________________________________ *** CLICK HERE TO SEE THE MATCH REPORT ***
England beat Paraguay 1-0 with an unconvincing performance in their last match but only need one more victory to qualify for the second round. Trinidad and Tobago are at the World Cup finals for the first time and have the smallest population of any of the countries at the World Cup 2006 with only 1.3 million people. In their first World Cup match they got an impressive 0-0 draw with Sweden with strong performances from a lot of the team, especially Dwight Yorke (midfielder) and Shaka Hislop (goalkeeper). Brent Sancho replaced an injured Marvin Andrews (knee) in central defence and would have been pleased with his performance. After their success against Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago will probably keep the same 4-5-1 formation against England with only Stern John up front. Their right back Avery John will not be available after the red card he received in the last game so Cyd Gray is likely to move from left back to right back. Carlos Edwards will probably be given the right back role. Their team is likely to be: Hislop Edwards Sancho Lawrence Gray Whitley Birchall Yorke Theobald Samuel S John England will have Wayne Rooney (recovering from a broken foot) on the bench. Eriksson said Rooney is now "match fit" but will not start this match and that he had yet to decide whether Rooney will come on as substitute or not. Michael Owen and Peter Crouch are likely to be England's two starting strikers as they did well when England beat Jamaica 6-0 recently. Gary Neville has been ruled out of the match with a calf strain and so Jamie Carragher or Owen Hargreaves is likely to come in at right back for England.
The England starting line up for the match is likely to be:
David Beckham Frank Lampard Steven Gerrard Joe Cole
Michael Owen
Peter Crouch
