TO START YOUR COMPUTER AND
RECOVER YOUR DOCUMENT FILES:
Have the following ready to use:
A Windows Startup Disk (EBD)
The 'Doc_Recovery V1.2 program disk'
Plenty of blank, formatted floppy disks, for your documents.
Labels for the floppy disks.
A pen or pencil.
1. If ON, turn OFF your computer.
2. Insert a Windows Startup Disk (EBD) into the A: (floppy) drive.
3. Turn ON your computer.
4. At the 'Microsoft Windows XX Startup Menu' select: 'Start computer without CD-ROM support' and press the ENTER key. Wait while the computer starts.
5. When the prompt (the 'A:\>' on the left of the screen) appears, remove the Windows Startup Disk from the floppy drive.
6. Insert the 'Doc_Recovery V1.2 program disk' into the A: (floppy) drive.
7. Type in the word SETUP and press the ENTER key. Wait while the program loads.
8. When the prompt 'A:\>' has changed to 'D:\>' remove the 'Doc_Recovery V1.2 program disk' from the floppy drive.
9. Insert a BLANK (empty) formatted floppy disk into the floppy drive.
10. Type in the word DOC_DUMP and press the ENTER key. Wait while the program searches the hard disk and then starts copying your document files to the floppy disk.
11. If 'If 'Dump Completed' is shown, then remove the floppy disk, label it 'DR_DUMP' and go to step 12.
If your documents fill the first floppy disk, the program will ask:
'Insert disk #X - Press a key when ready'
At this prompt remove the first disk from the drive and label it
'DR_DUMP #1'
Insert another blank disk into the drive and press ENTER. (Label any following disks 'DR_DUMP #2', 'DR_DUMP #3',.. and so on.) Keep inserting disks when asked for, until 'Dump Completed' is shown.
12. You have now recovered your documents from the hard disk. Put your 'DR_DUMP' disk(s) in a safe place.
Work may now safely start on recovering/restoring Windows.
TO LOAD YOUR DOCUMENT FILES BACK TO THE HARD DISK:
When Windows has been recovered/restored,
you may need to re-load your
documents back to the hard disk.
Have the following ready to use:
The 'Doc_Recovery V1.2 program disk'
The 'DR_DUMP' disk(s)
Start your computer as normal.
1. Insert the 'Doc_Recovery V1.2 program disk' into the A: (floppy) drive. Using
'My Computer'/'Windows Explorer' double-click on the WIN_LOAD icon. Wait while
the programs are loaded to the hard disk.
2. When 'Ready to LOAD document files....' appears, remove the 'Doc_Recovery V2.1 program disk' and insert the 'DR_DUMP' disk, or the LAST (Highest numbered) disk of the 'DR_DUMP #X' set, into the A: (Floppy) drive and press ENTER.
3. At the prompt: 'Insert the LAST disk of the backup set - Press a key
when ready' press ENTER. IF you have MORE THAN ONE DR_DUMP disk you
will instead be asked: Insert disk #1 - Press a key when ready' so
insert the DR_DUMP #1 disk, and press ENTER. Wait while your
documents are loaded from the floppy. If prompted: 'Insert disk #X -
Press a key when ready' insert the next numbered disk and press ENTER.
4. When 'Load Completed' is shown, remove the 'DR_DUMP' disk from the floppy
drive.
5. Using 'My Computer'/'Windows Explorer' open the folders inside 'DOC_REC'. There are your documents! You can now copy them back to their original folders/directories. AFTER you have done this, delete the 'DOC_REC' folder and delete the files on the 'DR_DUMP' disks.
