Sunday 27th June was our Club Competition at the Inverness Ice Centre

Inverness Ice Skating Club held its tenth annual competition, which attracted a large entry from members.

The judges were Wendy Addison,  Dundee; Elaine Mackenzie, Aberdeen; and Veronica Smith, Dundee, who commended the club on its general standard, and remarked on the wonderful atmosphere created.

While competitors tried their best, the large audience supported everyone from the youngest, who was just five, to the eldest, a Senior Citizen.

Three handsome new trophies were available - the Seersoftware Shield, the Macrae and Dick Landrover Shield and the MacLean Cup.

The club is indebted to the McWhirter family, Laura and David Grant, John MacLean, and William Cruickshank of Cruickshank's lemonade for their generous support.

The Fancy Dress exhibits were outstanding! Perhaps mums and grans should get the trophy! The theme for the tots was a character from a nursery story or rhyme, and as a result Snow White, Captain Hook, Batman, Emma Spice and a Little Mermaid took to the ice.

As the Little Mermaid, Lisa Robertson won the event.

The competition for nine years and over was won by Nadia Macrae, as "British Summer Holiday", complete with welly-skates and umbrella! Jemma Robertson, "Famous Grouse" took second place, with Rachael Macrae, "Summer Holiday", third.

Every year the club look forward to the climax of the competition, when skaters perform solo and in groups, the emphasis being on entertainment. The competitors have such fun making up their routines, and this year was no different. Costumes were amazing, programmes original, and there was no lack of entertainment.

In first place were the "Ugly Sisters" (Caroline Brown and Hannah McLaren). Their costumes were wonderful and every beat of their clog-dance music was interpreted. Their performance could have earned them an Oscar!

Six-year-old Wendy Brown is another destined for the stage, as she took second place as the 'Ugly Duckling", who turned Into a swan.

Her sister 10-year-old Julie, performed Arthur Askey's 'Busy Bee" routine, and took third place.

Other routines were presented by the Disco Dollies (Linda Grant and Nicola Orrock); Fiona Menzies - a fast and furious version of "Tell My Ma"; twins Sammy and Kirsten Walker, "Pony of the Year"; the Toonies (Lauryn Begg and Katrina Thomson); Stepps (Hollie Boyes, Emma Blanusa and Melissa Ritchie; Noddy, Big Ears and Elf (Zoe Hooper, Gillian McPhee and Alec Crosbie); and  "Believe" (Kayleigh Dent and Gemma Kennedy).
