WHAT'S IN A NAME

What's in a name? - in Biblical times, the name Jesus was as common as what John is with us today, complete with their variants. Jesus = Joshua, Jeshua, Yoshua, Yeshua. John = Jon, Evan, Ewan, Sean, Ivan, Ian, Iain, Ianto etc.

Scripture tells us that when He is born, He will be called Emannuel. But when He was born, He was called Jesus! So what does Jesus actually mean to us? I was told the following, and I believe it:

J - Jehovah
E - Emannuel
S - Saviour of (what's left)
US
