Commissioned by Stockley Park Consortium
for
Aspect . 2 The Square . Stockley Park . Uxbridge

The aim was to create an artwork that would work both aesthetically and practically to counteract the glare of the sun into the reception area.
The idea came from a playful look at the word wave which suggests the natural world, airwaves, sound waves and the transmission of information across worlds and oceans.
We live in a world awash with numbers bobbing up and down on these waves. Waves also create a dynamic energy on which we are all reliant; thus when two come close they cause a tension and energy is released.

The structure of the wave forms make a lyrical counterpoint against the grid structure of the glazing and span the six-metre space between the two upright supports.
A winch is attached to the left support from which the blinds can be moved manually up and down in order to integrate the blinds into the design of the building. All the engineering was designed in collaboration with Arup Associates

The top wave measures 6.20 metres and the lower is 7.40 metres. The width of each is 1.12 metres. The aluminium framework is stretched with trevira fabric and hand painted with helizarin dyes
