My work has developed from flat hand painted
silk hangings to dynamic sculptural structures influenced by my designs for theatre
productions; in particular dance and phyisical theatre.
These structures, stretched with painted silk
organza, transform spaces both public and domestic in scale. They have the effect of
theatre transformation cloths i.e. images appear and disappear as the available light
changes giving a continually changing picture according to viewpoint.
The space and its use becomes the 'script' from which the ideas evolve. A sense of
movement, colour and light are strong features of my work.
Thematically I am intrigued by the use of mythology and metaphor in our lives particularly
related to the natural world.
The contrast between the properties of silk and metal is an ongoing exploration.
My present work concerns 'Botanical Journeys' which will be a
series of work based on the diaries and recorded journeys made by plant collectors.
Please leave me messages if you have any information
related to this i.e.
a botanist in the family, source of diaries and stories.
Have you ever pressed a flower or leaf and discovered it years later in a book?
Do you remember the occasion?
