| The space allocated for the artwork was the restaurant area and entrance to the swimming pool and sports centre. It is a cavernous space over two floors with a balcony above to look down into the space. The only lighting was large industrial sodium lights hanging from the bars supporting the curved roof. The piece had to make an impact on this huge space, relate to the centre and the people using it, which were predominantly families with young children. The idea of creating a hanging three-dimensional pool with a wave running through the middle was to mimic the pool that lay just beyond the restaurant area. It is a playful quirky piece that is enjoyed by the visitors to the centre and a totally unexpected outcome for the councilors as it was their first experience of commissioning an artist and they were apprehensive. They were delighted by its success. | |
