Painting Holidays in Keswick
Four day courses in the Lake District are based in Portinscale a pretty village one mile from Keswick staying at Derwent Lodge. Following in Beatrix Potters footsteps we will include Friars Crag, the shores of Derwentwater and beautiful Borrowdale Valley sketching under Catbells looking into the Newlands valley perfect painting days and compostions.Painting on location and with demonstrations everyday, for the odd rainy days, demonstrations will be taken in a local hall with views of surrounding fells.
Where we stay
Lakeland art courses will be based at Derwent Lodge Hotel a traditional Luxurious Georgian Manor House, built in 1780 and set in 1.7 acres of grounds in the picture postcard village of Portinscale. It is a mere minutes walk from the shores of Derwentwater,from the slightly elevated position, you can enjoy stunning views of Skiddaw, Cat Bells and beautiful Derwentwater a tastefully furnished quiet lounge overlooking the garden and with a splendid view of the lake, as well as a fully licensed lounge bar. There is plenty of parking within the grounds, a restful beautiful location perfect for enjoying a Lakeland painting holiday in calm and magnificent surrounding.
Course agenda
Every day will be spent on location with Jane working alongside supporting,demonstrating and encouraging to develop your own style.
Courses starts at 12 noon with a welcome meeting and discussion of painting locations etc followed by an afternoon of painting either on location or an inside demonstration.
Two full days will begin at 10am catching the local launch to our first location of the day a few hours spent capturing reflections of Derwentwater, an inspirational Hot Chocolate or homemade scone at a local tea shop, the afternoon spent painting on location Friars Crag, Grange in Borrowdale and along the shores of Derwentwater are often visited, finishing the day around 5pm.
Thursday meeting at 10am painting in Portinscale or in Derwent Lodge grounds finishing at 2pm with a very informal critique.
