SHIBORI WORKSHOP PROGRAMME
Three day indigo dyeing workshop.
Day 1 Arrival at tea time - informal discussions about Shibori with some ideas being
Formed about which techniques to follow and which designs to try. There will be time for a walk this evening
to take in the peace and beauty of this corner of Cumbria.
Non residential students can join the group for supper
and discussions at a cost of £
Day 2 The whole day spent in application of various Shibori techniques on the cloth provided.
Preparation of the indigo vats.
Non residential students can join the group again Join supper if wished and have the opportunity to work on
in the evening.
Day 3 The results of the previous day's work will be illustrated by dipping the various pieces of
prepared cloth into the vats. In the afternoon, the more immediate effects of the clamping
technique will be seen.
Day 4 During the morning the work that was dipped yesterday will be dried and oxidized
sufficiently for taking home. Workshop ends ready for departure before 12 noon.
All materials such as cloth, needles, thread and the dye vat will be provided however, if there is some special
fabric you wish to experiment with, please bring it with you.
Remember to bring rubber gloves with you and to wear
old clothes (or blue clothes!) and shoes on dipping day.
There will be breaks each day for coffee, tea and lunch.
There will be a selection of Pie Chambers-Sethi's own work in the Coach House.
