This chick appeared amongst a group of Black Red youngsters. It's striking
appearance was totally at odds with the rest of the group. It has subsequently
grown into a rather dark, mealy pullet which I believe is as near as we in the
UK have come to Partridge colour.

This head study shows how some cockerels can develop quite substantial combs
and wattles. In the UK however, these birds do require additional protection if
they are to avoid frost damage etc.
The mottled cockerel above had a comb equal to the size of the white cockerels
when it was just three months old. This was quite a spectacle in the growing
pen!

This cock is well on the way to being a Gold Duckwing. A relatively new
colour for the UK.

A very nice Black Red cock, showing a rich deep colour and wing bay.

A very nice Wheaten hen, which would be paired with the above Black red cock.

A mixed group of Japanese chicks, leg length can be determined as soon as
the chicks have hatched.

A nice mixed group of young pullets.
