The Fiva is a small sub-notebook PC. By small, I mean slightly smaller than a VHS video cassette. And it runs proper Windows - not CE or similar.

I currently own 2 PCs - a standard size laptop and a Fiva. When I bought the laptop, I found it great to have a computer that I could carry around with me - even if is a bit bulky. Getting the Fiva then brought home just how inconvenient a standard Laptop really is. The Fiva really does go everywhere - with exactly the same software as the bit Laptop.

In performance terms it's not stunningly fast - a 200MHz or 233MHz Cyrix processor won't win races. But it is (as far as I know) the smallest production PC around. It is also quite adequate for MS Office 97 Pro, real-time video capture, in fact almost everything I ask of it. The one thing that is a bit unimpressive is starting Excel 97 with a some plugins enabled. But that's something I only do 1 or 2 times a day.

The one thing I will mention is the display. Casio have fitted a 800 by 600 pixel (i.e. SVGA) colour display on the Fiva. In spite of its size, it's very clear - I can use it for several hours before it becomes tiring. The only real competition I know of for the Fiva is from Sony, with 1024 by 480 pixels - much too easy to fill with toolbars.
