These now rare plants used to grow on the Downs,in the woodlands , hedgerows and fields of England.

To photograph them it is probably best to visit wild life reserves at the appropriate time of year.

But having seen them at close range, you should now be able to identify single specimens which can still occur on un-managed land, some species colonise old industrial sites, finding the spoil heaps to their liking.

We have found Bee Orchids in damp meadows a long way from their normal chalk habitat,so it would seem that some species had a wider range of habitats than currently recorded on their distribution maps.

Re-introductions of some species of Wild Orchids has been attempted and the long term survival of these has been a problem.
