Home
is a chalet bungalow on the north side of Romford fronting a main road. When
we first moved here around twenty years ago the panel between the two ground
floor windows was plain lime green, with trelliswork attached, and it cried
out for distinctive treatment. My first attempt was simple white flowers
on a red ground; the leaves just black silhouettes. Some years later it was
all repainted with more detail on the flowers, and the leaves were done in
two shades of green. (That got me a write-up in a local newspaper!) This
year (1997) the red background and some detail on the centre of the flowers
was refurbished (with Stan's help) and the metal butterfly was added.
I have only seen one other house in Essex with paintings on the front, and sadly these were lost when it was partially rebuilt some years ago. If you know of other private houses in the UK that are decorated with external paintings please send me details/photos and perhaps it may be possible to put up a Gallery here.
