INTRODUCTION

The censuses taken between 1801 and 1831 are of limited use to the genealogist looking for particular families in that they record only numbers; names were first recorded in the 1841 census. In addition to the 'official' information, these files contain the Family Tree reference (where that person has been identified) at the beginning of the line. An ongoing project, as yet incomplete, is to link these references with the Family Tree. Currently the links for the 1841 and the 1881 censuses have been completed with the consequence that clicking on the underlined reference will divert to that person on the Family Tree Generations K - Q.

THE 1841 CENSUS

The ages of those over 15 years of age are recorded to the lowest term of five years. Also recorded are occupations and the place of birth which is limited to 'Within this County; Y(es)/N(o)'.

THE 1901 CENSUS

Despite its being released in 2002, it has not yet been possible to access the much proclaimed web-site to interrogate this census. Watch out for further details as information becomes available.
