When the current coordinator took over at YSDCT all the operational systems where paper based. It rapidly became apparent that some form of computerisation would significantly improve the running of YSDCT, as well as provide significant saving in administration time and cost.

As there was very little funding available for a computerised system, a home grown system was developed by one of the volunteers to match the way that the current tried and tested paper based system was run. The initial system focused on the booking, management and invoicing of the Group hire side of YSDCT business.

Since the services have been expanded to include the new Ring and Ride Service as well as the Volunteer Car Scheme, the suite of programs have gradually been extended to cover these services. In all this development considerable time has been taken to talk the staff that will be operating the software, so that it meets their needs.

The software has been developed on a cross platform relational database Datapower that will work on Windows / MacOS and RiscOS.

Four Towns Transport, based in Patchway and a new Ring and Ride Group in Weston-Super-Mare have purchased a similar system from the volunteer concerned.
