I liked the lighting effect of the original photograph and tried to paint it in oils. The quality of the finished product is very difficult to show here in this medium, but I was very pleased with the result and have so far produced four copies of this picture.

the resulting acrylic portrait of John's Dad

People do not realise the timescale involved in producing oil portraits. This is the case here. I will call this one simply 'John's Dad'.

John wanted a portrait for his Mum's birthday but only allowed a week for delivery. Impossible in Oils, so I did it in Acrylics. This is the result and everyone concerned was extremely happy with the result.

The acrylic paint does tend to give the subject a much harder look, which worked great in this case.
