NOTHING HUMAN

By Katei

"Come in." B'Elanna gave a disgusted look as Tom walked into her

quarters.

"We need to talk," he said.

"What's there to talk about? You let that... that Cardassian pig

operate on me when I made it clear I didn't want him anywhere near

me," the bitterness and anger were evident in her voice. She was

struggling to keep herself from leaping off the chair, but only

because she didn't have the strength to do so.

"You were dying, that thing was literally sucking the life out of

you."

"That's no excuse. You could have let the Doctor do it on his own."

"There wasn't time. We didn't know how long you had left, if we did

that you might be dead by now."

"It wasn't right. You had no right to make that decision for me. I

made my wishes very clear, and you went against that. I benefited from

all those peoples' suffering."

"He was just a hologram, B'Elanna."

"A hologram programmed with the knowledge of Crel Moset. Knowledge

that cost those people their lives. And now I have to live with the

knowledge that I benefited from those experiments. Experiments on

innocent people."

"I couldn't bear the thought of losing you."

"You see, that's the problem. You were being selfish. You were only

thinking of yourself. Of what you wanted."

"I love you, B'Elanna. I only wanted what was best for you and if that

meant using that damned hologram then so be it. You know, the captain

was right. I should have left you longer, given you time to cool off.

But I had to see you and you know what, I wish I never came. I'm

leaving."

"That's just fine with me. Get out."
