Walshy is back! He's been ill, but he's back and kicking bottom.
Guy Walsh at 13:47:22 Wednesday November 12 97
Thank God they've disappeared. Does anyone know anything about the group 'Slack'? I've heard one song (From SESSIONS magazine), and it was excellent- However since then I've heard no more. Keep an eye out anyway, 'cause if 'The Shaker' was anything to go by they will be a fantastic group.
HeadCleaner at 9:54:55 Wednesday November 12 97
No, that's the Outhere Brothers.
Guy Walsh at 9:38:45 Wednesday November 12 97
Boom boom...
HeadCleaner at 18:9:37 Tuesday November 11 97
I dunno, he's a bit too bald for me...
Anon at 17:33:8 Tuesday November 11 97
the aqua lead singer is damn fine
Nick Sim at 17:40:55 Friday November 7 97
The Spice Girls have always been a marketing scam but at least
their first album had nice pop tunes. Since then they have been
reaching out for all the 'girl power' cash they can grab and
their new album is awful. Apart from the single and that Pepsi
song all the songs are pathetic attempts at copying different
musical styles, and the final track 'She's a vamp' is the worst
song I've heard this year. Barbie Girl may be a gimmick, but
at least the song is quite good: Girl Power is a gimmick but the
Spice Girls are shit.
HeadCleaner at 11:53:10 Friday November 7 97
That Aqua song is superb. This year's 2 Unlimited, Aqua are the epitome of disposable trash pop - and I especially like the way they get up all those pseudo-serious DJs, presenters and critics. Altogether now : "COME ON BARBIE, LET'S GO PARTY!"
Guy Walsh at 11:58:11 Thursday November 6 97
And it's all gone quiet, all gone quiet, all gone quiet over here. We need another debate point. OK who likes Aqua? Personally I think it's a great cult song, but it's far too crap to be taken seriously.
Guy Walsh at 9:11:49 Wednesday November 5 97
Re: Pages- not too slow. General message: A big thank you to everyone for putting the Stereophonics where they belong- in the top 20. Now lets put them where they really belong- at number 1!!
HeadCleaner at 8:55:15 Wednesday November 5 97
Non-music question: are people finding these pages slow at the moment? My service provider appears to have lost its performance edge lately.
Guy Walsh at 9:48:6 Monday November 3 97
Might as well have been.
Greg at 18:37:21 Sunday November 2 97
Were the Bee gee's really called The Tossers?
HeadCleaner at 11:26:59 Friday October 31 97
I think we all agree about that one. The day OCS inflicted their tired retro passionless nonsense upon the world was a dark day indeed. I blame that ginger gentleman Chris Evans...
Guy Wah! at 9:31:27 Friday October 31 97
Good point!
Nick Sim at 23:27:5 Thursday October 30 97
They're not that bad. They're better than OCS! Did anyone see
the Bee Gees walk out on Clive Anderson?! Hilarious!
Greg at 20:59:15 Thursday October 30 97
Kula shaker really are quite awful.
Guy Walsh at 13:55:34 Thursday October 30 97
New Debate: Why are Kula Shaker so bloomin' crap?
Guy at 9:28:53 Thursday October 30 97
Anyway, sorry to disagree again, but 'Traffic' by the Stereophonics HAD to be the best single of last week. 'We all face the same way...'
Guy Walsh at 9:27:41 Thursday October 30 97
I'll resist the temptation...
HeadCleaner at 8:24:5 Thursday October 30 97
HeadCleaner has an interview with Bis lined up - any questions you'd like us to ask on your behalf? Respond by Monday 3rd November.
HeadCleaner at 8:15:15 Thursday October 30 97
...and the largest and least intelligent gibbon at his local zoo.
Nick Sim at 17:17:57 Wednesday October 29 97
Actually Liam quite blatantly modelled himself on Ian Brown
from the Stone Roses.
Greg (sorrryyyy) at 17:15:12 Wednesday October 29 97
By the way. Have any 'Cleaners out there had the misfortune to come across the new single by 'North & South' entitled 'Breathing.'
Surely this must be stopped. Come on, I once saw them on tv talk about wanting to be taken seriously as musicians. If this is so why did they star in a bbc1 childrens programme, and why do they all look like boyzone rejects.
GREG(again) at 17:12:6 Wednesday October 29 97
tHE 'Bunnymen' are good too. 'The Game' is a brilliant song. Liam modelled himself on The Mac.
Greg O'Keeffe at 17:10:13 Wednesday October 29 97
Woah, Ok Travis produce guitar driven pop songs, which are often simple yet they are way better than Oasis. Travis are an extremely down to earth bunch of lads, and Fran Healy is cool yet posseses none of the annoying arrogance of Liam Gallagher. He's also intelligent something which neither of those cheeky manc rascals can boast. Unfortunately Travis had to support Oasis on their recent tour but I see this as a marriage of convenience. As for Embrace, I bough 'All you good good people' admitedly on the back of all this hype. It was painfully dissapointing, and the music critics must be listening to a different band when they hail this bunch of prats. I read in Select that singer Danny Macnamara boasts that 'Bittersweet symphony' by the Verve wouldn't even get on their album. So are we to presume he would exclude this original gem of a track in favour of 'One big family' (crap) Last Gas(crap) or 'All you good good people' (worse) Wake up 'Embrace' are 'The next big thing that weren't..' (Keith 'The Man' Dumble 1997).
HeadCleaner at 14:21:13 Wednesday October 29 97
I probably have a soft spot for the Bunneymen as I remember the great Indie Wars of the 80s when things like Rick Astley and Def Leppard were the only alternative. You'd have loved them then too...I still think "Don't Let It Get You Down" is a great Song, however - and certainly the best on offer this week.
Nick Sim at 14:17:33 Wednesday October 29 97
I have to agree, Radiohead are the best band out there at
the moment. Travis deserve a bit more success than they have
got and the Manics are good although I've gone off them(a bit).
It's just that the Bunnymen singer has Embrace/Oasis
disease - he thinks they are the greatest band ever and they
aren't. Hmm. 'I wanna be there when you coooooome'.'Don't let it
get you dooooown'. Pretty samey to me. I'm sure they were
good once.
Guy Walsh at 13:48:29 Wednesday October 29 97
Sorry, but I disagree with both of you. Embrace only sound average to me, although they have been hyped up so much it is inevitable they will do well. Also The Bunnymen seem very average to me, I can't see what the big attraction is with them either. YOU SEE- I am capable of constructive critisism when people don't get my back up. Anyway- I won't be buying either.
HeadCleaner at 11:20:45 Wednesday October 29 97
And as for the Bunnymen, that song has been running through my head ever since I heard it. As it's the first song to do that since Aqua's "Barbie" - and I'm an unashamed and devoted fan of the band - it gets a 10/10 from me.
HeadCleaner at 11:17:57 Wednesday October 29 97
Welcome to the Board, Nick. I wouldn't agree with you that most indie bands sound like the big bad O - certainly not the ones that move me (Radiohead, Manics, Warm Jets, etc). It is probably true to say that there are a hell of a lot of bands that do owe a little to the Gallaghers though, and Travis do stand guilty as charged there. It's just Travis seem to do it with a lot more self-effacing good humour than others and have a certain spark that Embrace for one certainly lack. I have no doubt that "All You Good Good People" will do well in the charts - that's not really the point though: I still feel it's so unoriginal, contrived and boring that it warrants the low mark.
Nick Sim at 11:10:53 Wednesday October 29 97
Alright, I know Embrace sound like Oasis. But don't Travis
(some of the time) and practically every other indie band
out there? It is one of the singles of the week everywhere
else so I'm afraid you're gonna have to sit back and watch
them go up. Echo and the Bunnymen 10/10. It's got the same
chorus as the last bloody song! I'm not a massive Embrace
fan or anything I just think 2 out of 10 may be a bit harsh
when a pretty average song can grab a 10.
Greg at 19:46:21 Monday October 27 97
Ether are amazing. Check them out. Songs, he say yeah, if you really wanna know, strange, and best friend.
Greg O'Keeffe at 19:34:46 Monday October 27 97
Woah, there has been some serious disagreements goin' on. I'll have to point out that this is all peoples strong opinions, not 'intollerance unlimited'. Everyone is right in their own way (But Guy is righter). Anyway, it's got to be MEL B. sHE HAS THE BEST BODY, and is undoubtably the prettiest. And I'll bet she's a big pussy cat at heart. Geri seems to be sexy in flashes. Posh lost any appeal when she decided to go out with brylcream boy(ok, jealousy I know I know) Baby spice is ok and sport is lookin tasty lately. Later
HeadCleaner at 9:22:19 Monday October 27 97
Sporty gets my vote.
Guy Walsh at 9:6:38 Monday October 27 97
Come on, this is boring. Let's start off some debate or something. Who's your favourite Spice Girl? I'll go for Baby Spice.
Guy Walsh at 11:8:36 Friday October 24 97
I'm not immature or anything, but HE STARTED IT!!
graeme at 20:34:39 Thursday October 23 97
what is this area, intollerance unlimited? We all like different music, so what, no need to slag each other off is there?
Seve at 20:32:50 Thursday October 23 97
Ok, lets call a halt.
Guy, I'm not impressed by you finding that site - I know it was in your bookmarks anyway.
I can see how U2 have become more depressing, but I would hardly call the Joshua Tree depressing. I suppose I'll just have to accept I'm in a minority here, and I'll never darken your door again. BYE!
richard ashcroft at 12:5:38 Thursday October 23 97
U2 suck underated fags!!! seeds rule
Guy at 11:56:6 Thursday October 23 97
I'm safe with that.
HeadCleaner at 11:38:14 Thursday October 23 97
Erm...can you just agree to disagree here...?
Guy again at 11:36:8 Thursday October 23 97
Anyway, here's the address of a U2 fan's site. Go speak to him and sod off from here.:::: http://falcon.cc.ukans.edu/~mcphisto/u2/themusic.html ;;;;; Yes, I've even gone to the trouble of finding it for you. Now go away.
Guy Walsh at 11:17:40 Thursday October 23 97
I will resist the temptation to swear as some of us have some repectability. You don't understand computer grammar do you? How you can critisise the Lightning Seeds when U2 had the cheek to call their album 'POP' I'll never know. At least I've had some credibility (although from you doesn't count), you've been viewed as a turd since you arrived. The only problem you have is that you can;t stand anything that flows or has a decent tune in it. Music tastes often reflect people's lives- and as U2 tend to write moaning, depressing stuff I think I have an idea of what your life is like. Do yourself, and everyone else a favour mate- go and see a counciler. What is REAL Music, it's obviously not U2- music should flow and be jolly- not a way to depress you and get on your nerves. Actually, sod the counciler- go jump off a bridge.
Seve at 22:10:15 Wednesday October 22 97
HAHAHAHA!
You have just lost ALL credibilty. Let's face it, the Lighting Seeds are bollocks. Ok, I don't know a lot of their stuff, but
all that I have heard tells me they are shite. 3 lions? Bollocks. You Showed Me? Real Music? Do me a favour! I was actually
going to give that Stereophonics EP a try, but if that is the standard of your taste, then I don't know.
Guy Walsh at 9:56:50 Wednesday October 22 97
Maybe you ought to try 'Sense' by the Lightning Seeds to see what REAL music sounds like. By the way, message to everyone- you haven't heard the Stereophonics if you haven't seen them live. You can't really appriciate them properly until then. However in the meantime- buy TRAFFIC next week- and the live EP with it.
Seve at 21:12:38 Tuesday October 21 97
Looks like Guy had some spare time on Tuesday then!
I'm glad you missed me Guy! I haven't "seen sense" as you put it, I was down in London for a few days. Quite an
unpleasant place. (Don't bother with any flames, I'm sure
I'd like it if I gave it a try).
Ok here goes:
GUY: How can I say that U2 change their style? Listen to your inherited (pirate) copy of Joshua Tree, then listen to the next studio album, Achtung Baby?
GREG: Thanks for your advice. BTW, I love they way you say U2 are past it, then say that one of their best songs is Discotheque - off their latest album! Surely if they are still producing the odd good tune they are still doing better than a lot bands?
HEADCLEANDER: Please try and clean up the sort of hypocrisy shown above. ;-)
HeadCleaner at 14:6:58 Tuesday October 21 97
Welcome to the wonderfully broad-minded world of HeadCleaner...!
Guy Walsh at 13:50:14 Tuesday October 21 97
Oh yeah, I forgot the Spice Slappers. That's it, I genuinly am leaving now.
Guy Walsh at 13:48:54 Tuesday October 21 97
Of course there are others, but I can't be bothered to mention them all. A Hate House, jungle and Techno though. Having said that most other dance stuff it alright. Except Happy House. and other types of similar crap. Notice there's no reply from that U2 fan. Has he finally seen sense?
Guy Walsh at 13:46:48 Tuesday October 21 97
Only joking Greg.
Guy Walsh at 13:46:21 Tuesday October 21 97
Ok. Put it this way. I like every band except fot the following: Kula Shaker, OCS, Elton John, George Micheal, Travis.
Greg 'Guitar pop' O'Keeffe at 20:40:11 Monday October 20 97
By the way, I can be varied, I can be different, I can be experimental. I'm no give me a nice guitar pop song an' I'll be happy kind of guy. I just love good bands, music etc.
If people who post messages calling my tastes boring, know this....
i QUITE LIKED Dig your own hole, and the sneaker pimps album.
Greg O'Keeffe at 20:35:49 Monday October 20 97
Ha ha, indeed.
But seriously you really should invest in the album 'word gets around' as the band are fast on their way to becoming idispensible.
Pick any single from, More life.. Local boy.. Looks like Chaplin a 1000 trees, and traffic.
Guy Walsh at 9:35:55 Monday October 20 97
Bloody hell- I'm away for one week and it turns into mayhem. U2 ARE CRAP. Face it mate- they've written ONE good song- staring at the sun. I'll recommend 'A Thousand Trees' for a Stereophonics single, but you're tastes are so crap you probably on't appriciate it anyway. Also look out for 'Traffic' next week. And leave off Travis n'all. Don't you just love those flowing melodies on 'Please' by U2? WOW!?! When U2 write something different and exciting that actually gets going I might buy it. Joshua Tree is crap, I've got a copy I inherited- how you can say they change their style I don't know. I have to say it- I'd rather listen to the Spice Girls.
Greg at 16:12:0 Saturday October 18 97
Seve,
Alright you like U2, but how can you make sweeping statements slagging of Travis. Travis are young, exciting, and are currently heading for massive success. As for U2, yes, they've produced some good tunes (notably, one, with or without you, and discotheque) but they are just past it. However, Pop sold a few copies so they'll probably soldier on for a few more years.
Greg at 16:8:2 Saturday October 18 97
Bands I intensely dislike : (In no particular order)
1) Depeche mode 5)Oasis
2)Bis 6)Black grape
3)INXS 7)Kula Shaker
4)G.U.N. 8)North & South (If they even count).
HeadCleaner at 8:11:54 Friday October 17 97
Innovative within their own limited sphere, perhaps. However, I doubt many bands look to U2 as an influence (admittedly such influential bands are - by their very nature - few and far between). I just feel that U2 have had their day and have now joined the rest of the rock dinosaurs, churning out their own self-indulgent material without much concession to what's going on in the outside world. As for Stereophonics - I'll leave it to Greg and Guy to recommend a suitable starter for ten, as they're more devoted fans of the band than me. I really like their "Local Boy In The Photograph" single however.
Seve at 18:11:21 Thursday October 16 97
Hmmm, I don't get the comparison. Whether you think their music is good or bad, I would say they are innovative - if
you listen to Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum, then the move to Achtung Baby, it is a big leap to make. Oasis have simply
released three albums which are almost identical in style - at least U2 have tried to change.
Still, I'll let you get back to your stereophonics - never heard them - however if you give me the name of the best Stereophonics thing to listen (single, album, whatever), I might even try it!
HeadCleaner at 8:15:3 Thursday October 16 97
Ok, if you really want to know...2 reasons: one, I think U2 make music about as exciting, innovative and passionate as a chimpanzee banging dustbin lids together. And two, the band's (and particularly Bono's) ego is so large and preposterous that it's almost offensive. Much the same reasoning behind why I'm not the world's greatest Oasis fan, come to think of it.
Seve at 23:38:9 Wednesday October 15 97
I thought that last message was so important I sent it twice.
Seve at 23:31:53 Wednesday October 15 97
Silly tours! I like it. I'm sure whatever crap band you like
puts on a great show, greg.
Headcleaner: Could I hear exactly what you have against U2?
Or are you one of these people with a big list, in which case you
can just give me one or two reasons.
Seve at 23:31:17 Wednesday October 15 97

Greg at 18:39:53 Wednesday October 15 97
Tetchy these U2 fans aren't they, if you like them so much get of your arse and make a website, 'u2 world' and review all their singles and albums and silly tours.
HeadCleaner at 23:18:52 Tuesday October 14 97
Ha, a U2 fan called me crazy..! I love the internet.
Seve at 22:19:46 Tuesday October 14 97
Heh, I'll stick to NME then. If Travis is the sort of crap you like here, then I suppose I can do without amateur single reviews. And a Robbie Williams single of the week? What? How? Thats CRAZY!!!!! You are a CRAZY man!
HeadCleaner at 15:30:42 Tuesday October 14 97
Ok, now that one WAS an omission...it's the week before payday and I couldn't afford it - I'm afraid the Scream lost out against the Spice Girls...
tommo at 15:9:44 Tuesday October 14 97
Where is the sinhle review for Burning Wheel by Primal Scream? Surely one of the singles of the year deserves some coverage.
Top web page apart from that.
tommo
HeadCleaner at 9:5:57 Tuesday October 14 97
Got it in one. What do you think this is - the NME?
Seve at 21:35:16 Monday October 13 97
Just wanted to ask something - why are there NO U2 single
reviews? I know that sometimes not all singles are reviewed,
but they have released 4 this year and none have been included. What's the problem, has someone got a big "I hate U2" hangup?
Anon at 21:14:39 Monday October 13 97
Check out 'Kings of infinite space' their e.p' the slut (I'm living with)'
is out now. They're not bad.
GreG. at 18:37:36 Saturday October 11 97
Guy,
See 'Phonics on chart show, with 'traffic.'
You lucky thing, I'd love to hear Billy D. live, they didn't play it when I saw them. Did he use an acoustic?
Bye
Meeeeeeeeeeee!! at 10:32:15 Wednesday October 8 97
Well I went last night and they were absoloutly ****ing brilliant (place your own word under the stars, from the opening 'Looks Like Chaplin', to the final 'Local Boy in the Photograph' and the encore 'Billy Davey's Daughter' and 'Last of the Big-Time Drinkers'. Even Kelly getting the words wrong on 'Goldfish Bowl' couldn't spoil a fantastic night. I wen ton my own 'cause no-one I know likes (or has heard of) them, but what the heck- I was right near at the front. I will love this band forevermore. THE STEREOPHONICS RULE. I have to say the highlight of the night was 'A Thousand Trees', closely followed by 'More Life in a Tramps Vest'. I badly want a 'Tramp' t-shirt, but couldn't afford one. My life will never be the same again. If you've been bothered to read through this 'Bible' of a message, then go and see the Stereophonics at the first chance you get- soon they will be massive and it will be impossible to get hold of a ticket. Guy.
Loooooooney for Stereophonics at 13:42:54 Tuesday October 7 97
I take it that's a 'no' then. Can't wait 'till tonight.
Greg at 22:26:54 Monday October 6 97
Guy there can never be enough stereophonic pluggers. I say keep it up. Unfortunately I didn't tape it, just glad to hear it. I always miss sessions by bands I actually like.
Tuesday Night at 10:24:50 Monday October 6 97
I'm going to see the Stereophonics tommorrow night live at the Charlotte- anyone else going (he says optimistically!!)?
Stereophonics Plugger (Yes, Guy again, I get bored fairly quickly at college) at 10:36:51 Friday October 3 97
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! I missed it! Anyone got a taped copy? Please....
Remember to visit http://freespace.virgin.net/nigel.sachdev/phonics.html- or die.
GreG at 21:45:7 Thursday October 2 97
Guy,
Indeed Stereophonics are amazing, did you hear them live on the evening session last night. They did traffic soooo well. I think Billy Daveys daughter would be good live.
cyaa.
Need You Ask? (Guy) at 11:58:52 Thursday October 2 97
Look, I want copies of the old Stereophonics singles 'Local Boy in the Photograph', 'Looks Like Chaplin', and 'A Thousand Trees' if anyone has copies they'd like to sell, e-mail me with reasonable prices (I'm a student for God's sake). I already have 'More life in a tramp's vest' and the album, so don't bother offering these.
Am I the only person who uses this board or something, it's just i only ever see my messages and Greg's when I log on to this page, even when I reload to update.
Guy (Yes, again) at 11:41:30 Wednesday October 1 97
Did I ever tell you how good the Stereophonics are? No, well just buy their album and find out.
Greg at 22:47:25 Monday September 29 97
Do I detect a hint of sarcasm there Jenny, tut tut. And who tickles your fancy exactly? Answers on a postcard.. I'm going for Boyzone or North & South.
HeadCleaner at 20:58:40 Monday September 29 97
Expect a full-blown review soon, but it has to be said now: Homogenic by Bjork is an astounding piece of work - has to be a contender for LP of the year.
jenny at 15:3:16 Sunday September 28 97
my, what exciting musical tastes you all have. travis, stereophonics....goddamit i think my head's gonna explode!
