HeadCleaner at 14:43:10 Friday February 20 98
Hey now Guy - everyone's welcome here. I think we've all been guilty of a bit of "slagging off" in the past. I'm sure the bands Rob mentioned aren't the only ones he likes - and if he finds out about bands like Idlewild by hanging around here then so much the better.

Guy at 10:19:38 Friday February 20 98
Face it Rob, you're out of place here. If you're gonna hang around then don't go slagging other people off- at least be contructive. Stereophonics on TOTP tonight, also latest news- possible Glastonbury appearance. Been listening to my Silver Sun LP again, just can't get Lava out of my head.

HeadCleaner at 8:53:0 Friday February 20 98
Yep, Rowan - you can use the single review as you like. Keep us posted on progress of the page.

rowan at 20:52:41 Thursday February 19 98
oh yeah, keith- i may be trying to do an idlewild page (as there are none at the moment) can i use your single review of SP?

rowan at 20:51:22 Thursday February 19 98
guy> i'd rather have the vinyl cos i heard it was rarer, i might get it if i see it. (i have the cd) Stereophonics should have won best new comer...oh, they did. I agree with keith- embrace simply are...boring really.

Rob at 14:7:2 Thursday February 19 98
Embrace write quality music, not like Travis who obviuosly just jot a load of notes down on a piece of paper and scribble down the first things that come into their head. Also, Govinder was the best song of 96, and anyone who thinks All SAints are ugly needs there head looking at

HeadCleaner at 13:38:22 Thursday February 19 98
And all their songs sound the same. And all the buses come in threes. Not like when I was a lad. I can remember when all this was fields. (Sorry, I've been out in the pub). I've got the Parachat stuff working - it's not live yet, but should be online at the weekend, together with everyone's reviews that they've sent recently.

Guy at 13:28:48 Thursday February 19 98
At least you had someone to look up to... (sorry). Greg, I'm having probs putting you on the Stereophonics mailing list. You'll have to do it yourself, these computers are too slow. Go to www.coollist.com and scroll down to 'subscribe to a list'. Enter the list name as phonics (all lower case) and you address, and click on subscribe. Same for anyone else who wants to subscribe. As for Kula Shaker and Embrace? Pah! Justice was so obviously done at the Brits. Embrace are just averagly CRAP. Thinking about it, All Saints are a load of sh...rubbish as well. And they're all ugly.

Greg OK. at 14:24:45 Wednesday February 18 98
I caught theaudience live a few weeks ago, and just heard the single on radio 1 social then. How can they be so completely different. Standing by the Stereophonics bassist put me off.

Greg OK. at 14:22:46 Wednesday February 18 98
Kula Shaker? Kula Shaker? Come on Rob, we all like All Saints for obvious reasons but Kula Shaker? The lead singer is a complete....prat. Oh yeah Rowan what is Higher then reason like? Thom Yorkes brother plays guitar for The Unbelievable truth doesn't he? Embrace aren't bad, I feel I've been too harsh in the past. Oh, Travis should have won best new comers. ciao.

Rob at 14:0:23 Wednesday February 18 98
Kula Shaker are the best band of the 90's if you ask me. Who are Idlewild, and who's all this Stereophonics lark? Are they the ones who won best newcomer at the Brits? I thought Embrace should have won

HeadCleaner at 11:34:7 Wednesday February 18 98
Welcome Rob...you'll find a pretty wide taste of music from the people on here (not as wide as when Seve the U2 fan was kicking about, mind you). Personally, I dig All Saints - their brand of sassy streetwise soul does it for me. Of the other three bands, I must admit I'm not a big fan, although Kula Shaker have had their moments. Guy> Rowan's sent a review of Idlewild's "Captain" - your WGA review will be put up ok!

Rob at 10:58:33 Wednesday February 18 98
Hi, I'm new here and I think your site is grate. I like Ocean Colour Scene, Kula Shaker, All Saints and Embrace. Does anyone else?

Guy at 10:9:11 Wednesday February 18 98
Doh! I've just sent a review myself (you were talking about WGA?). Just like to say that due to network restrictions I won't be able to enter a chat room, the computer physically stops it and there's no way around. The CD version of LLC is nearly as limited, if not more so than the vinyl, but the vinyl is more collectable. I actually saw a copy on CD for 5.99, but I thought you wanted a copy on vinyl.

HeadCleaner at 7:55:6 Wednesday February 18 98
Y'know, that's not a bad idea...I shall investigate. I received your review, Rowan - it'll be up in the next couple of days.

rowan at 20:28:39 Tuesday February 17 98
Keith> why not put a chat room on the page and then organise certain times when the people who use this guestbook can chat? parachat's a good one. btw didn't manage to get snow patrol's 7" but did get the vinyl versions of - never never (cos it was lovly gold), brimful of asha, higher than reason and also everyday should be a holiday

rowan at 20:25:58 Tuesday February 17 98
Guy- do you know how ltd the CD version of looks like chaplin is?

rowan at 18:47:43 Tuesday February 17 98
i'll send that review

Guy at 13:54:53 Tuesday February 17 98
Sorry Rowan, I checked out the homepage yesterday, and I didn't realise it could be ordered from there. I was lead to beleive it was an exclusive to mailing list members. Yes, it is the one I meant. PLay Lava as aloud as possible, it sounds f...lipping brilliant (network restrictions, eh?). That WGA review will be with you soon, I've got to bring it in from home. And tricks I could not learn, in a lava so hard, bulls blood for baby Jesus, I don't think it's what I meant. Friendly faces? I am upset yeah!

HeadCleaner at 13:6:35 Tuesday February 17 98
Lava is indeed a top tune. More power to Silversun's pop. Looks like we're all in danger of agreeing on something here...and I reiterate - all reviews are welcome. I'm going to that Travis/Catatonia/Idlewild gig also - should be a goodun.

Greg OK at 11:37:10 Tuesday February 17 98
Lava is pure infectious power pop it's ace! I'm going to see Travis/Catatonia/Idelwild in March I'll send in a review. luego.

HeadCleaner at 8:8:32 Tuesday February 17 98
Rowan - it sounds like you're browser isn't set up to check for changed pages all the time - the single reviews were up by 7pm last night. And yep, a Captain review would be more than welcome.

Anon at 8:8:22 Tuesday February 17 98
Rowan - it sounds like you're browser isn't set up to check for changed pages all the time - the single reviews were up by 7pm last night. And yep, a Captain review would be more than welcome.

rowan at 21:2:13 Monday February 16 98
headcleaner> would you like me to write up a rev. of 'captain'? where are this weeks reviews?

rowan at 21:1:6 Monday February 16 98
ok, i'll try and make my messages more readable for you all. No. 14 hey- it's not too bad i suppose, 6 up on traffic. I have sent off for the vinyl 'local boy' from the mail order place on the stereophonics web page- is that the place you mean? if there were no copies left surly the advert would have been taken down?

HeadCleaner at 15:16:24 Monday February 16 98
Yep, send it on in Guy - biased or not. This is a fanzine, after all!

Guy at 9:58:15 Monday February 16 98
Number 14... Number BLOODY 14? That's your fault Keith- if you'd given it 10/10 and SOTW it would be number 1 by now (or maybe not). Rowan, please start typing properly, your messages are unreadable sometimes. The 7" is only available if you are on the snailmailing list. I doubt whether they'll be any left now. Greg, isn't LAVA f...lipping brilliant? I have written a review of WGA, but it's a bit bias and lacking in depth, if you really want I'll mail it to you and you can print it if you want.

rowan at 20:21:34 Sunday February 15 98
arrgghhh its 8:16 and i can't find out anywhere what number local boy went in!! i'm gonna buy the vinyl versions of the audience and dandy warholes singles (blue and purple) and also snow patrol's debut (if i can get it- only 500) cya

ok at 16:25:19 Sunday February 15 98
Keith, you've pulled.

Mrs BL at 0:32:43 Saturday February 14 98
Hey...Head CLeaner...you're soooo cool...please come clean my head??!!!! xxx

HeadCleaner at 20:42:5 Friday February 13 98
That Lily's song is pretty cool in a 60s powerpop kind of way. However, as it's being used in a jeans ad, that'll probably be the last we hear of them...And Brimful Of Asha is fantastic...if it doesn't get to number one I'll eat my dinner. Next week's singles look like a good bunch - Cornershop, Theaudience and The Dandy Warhols....which will make the SOTW??? I reckon Stereophonics will go in the chart at number 7 on Sunday and Rowan - I don't have any other Idlewild singles.

rowan at 19:42:13 Friday February 13 98
er, the interviews with stereophonics by the way

rowan at 19:41:23 Friday February 13 98
its working now. headcleaner- have you got any other idlewild singles? p.s check out this weeks melody maker for an interview with some interesting news......

GREG OK. at 19:25:55 Friday February 13 98
Hi buddies, Let's all get onto The Brimful of ASHa vibe. IF Cornershop never write another song it won't matter. It's f******g brilliant. Oh yeah anybody like Nanny in Manhattan? Guy, Silver sun are ace I reviewed the album ages ago. I love LAST day and Julia.

HeadCleaner at 8:41:54 Friday February 13 98
Hw about Guy or Greg doing a review of Word Gets Around (or have I offended them in not giving Local Boy SOTW??) C'mon guys - I did give it 9/10! The counter should be working ok Rowan - try refreshing the main page .

rowan at 19:27:44 Thursday February 12 98
i think the counters broken, seems to be stuck on 6333

rowan at 20:36:52 Wednesday February 11 98
how about a review of word gets around and captain?

rowan at 19:36:14 Wednesday February 11 98
btw, it was me asking what no. sinle you had no ANON? guy> are you sure i'll be too late getting the vinyl local boy from where it is advertised on the web page? I do mean the reissue version (i have the original 7").

rowan at 19:33:29 Wednesday February 11 98
looks like you just managed to get it (only 1500 wern't there?) will you be reviewing ultrasounds best wishes 23/2? 4000 cds i believe. do you not think that off idlewilds captain mini lp, satan polaroid is one of the weaker tracks. BTW, JUST GOT HOLD OF A LOOKS LIKE CHAPLIN CD SINGLE FOR 10 QUID- it'll increase in value though

HeadCleaner at 18:18:10 Wednesday February 11 98
1382 - you were quicker off the mark than I was...

Anon at 19:45:39 Tuesday February 10 98
HEADCLEANER> WELL Done, (IDLEWILD ARE BRILLIANT) BTW, my SP 7" IS no. 0263, whats yours?

Guy at 13:53:14 Tuesday February 10 98
PS, what does everyone think of Silver Sun, I think they rock like f...lip (Well you know what I mean)

Guy at 13:52:9 Tuesday February 10 98
You've upset me now. I'm going home. SOD IT! Who needs Headcleaner? Best new band at the Brits, second at the Brats, prime-time radio play- you just can't keep a good band down. Top 10 here we come... Rowan- 1) No, I haven't got the limited vinyl WGA, but 2) Local Boy... is available on 7" only directly through the (snail)mailing list, and you'd be too late now. 3) Local Boy... is released this week and if you haven't got both copies by now you should be bloody shot. Greg, where have you been hiding?

HeadCleaner at 10:31:18 Monday February 9 98
I'll be reviewing Idlewild's single if I can get my hands on it...and yes, I do buy 4-5 singles every week (10 quid's worth, usually). And I'm a music fan, pure and simple - I just do this for fun and for the excitement of getting to talk to people like Dickon from Orlando...(!)

Greg , again. at 16:56:26 Sunday February 8 98
oh yeah, the new bluetones single sounded cool on tfi, as did 'phonics of course and warm jets. BTW Warm JETS bassist is quite an attractive lady. she floats my boat. BTW Does anybody know when Local boy... by the 'Phonics is re-released???? Heheehee.

Greg O'Keeffe. at 16:53:30 Sunday February 8 98
Favorite albums ever : OK Computer - Radiohead. Pet Sounds - The Beach boys. Good Feeling - Travis. Fountains of Wayne - FoW. I could have lied and tried to sound ever so mature by citing Dylan, Beatles,Floyd,Television but hey? I cannot get enough of the four I listed.

rowan at 13:59:16 Sunday February 8 98
ne1 here?....

rowan at 22:34:10 Friday February 6 98
by the way....sorry for the excessively long messages.

Rowan at 22:32:51 Friday February 6 98
I must say that the warm jets were pretty good on TFI friday tonight but guess what, Stereophonics were better!! Ultrasound are great, whens the next single- will you review it? NE1 know where to get idlewilds first single? Also, when is the release date for the next one? Guy- WGA is brilliant but wouldn't you say that some of Kelly's rhymes are a bit.....childish? I dunno, I hope they progress from the smoke/joke (tramps vest, carrot cake), or the cruk/ hard back book.... BTW- do you have the ltd vinyl album version???? I've also got a promo copy of the original local boy- very rare. Is local boy your favoutite track off the album? I'd like to have seen 'same size feet' get a release, perhaps instead of tramps vest (which as headcleaner pointed out, was a bit disappointing, although the b-sides are great) ne1 know how rare ultrasound's same band single is? headcleaner>> who exactly are you? do you really buy about 4 or 5 singles a week? on the subject of oasis> morning glory was a good album in that you could sing along to it and it was catchy but ultimatly the lyrics are pretty empty. Unlike The Holy Bible. GUT> PLEASE TELL ME, WHERE DO I GET HOLD OF 'RECORD COLLECTOR MAGAZINE'?? I Usually just browse the ads in NME (actually my favorite section of it!) IS LOCAL BOY out on seven inch aswell (on the web page it has no mention of it yet i've seen the re-release 7' version advertised?) I too have only recently got in to SFA..I like demons, play it cool, shes got spies, herman loves pauline on radiator...havnt got the other one. Let's see who can make the best guess of local boys chart peak, I say 16.

keith.dumble@ukonline.co.uk at 11:39:19 Friday February 6 98
I don't like Oasis due to what I perceive as their lack of originality, innovation and downright excitement. No Oasis song has ever caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand up - I find all their stuff completely passionless. Yet I can understand why some people like their brand of anthemic rock - they are certainly effective at what they do - I just don't dig them.

Guy at 10:57:26 Friday February 6 98
This might sound a bit samey, but my fave album of all time is Word Gets Around by guess who? I got my copy of 'Looks Like Chaplin' via mail order and Record Collector magazine (my Dad's copy). Oh yeah, 'Local Boy in the Photograph' by the Stereophonics is released on Monday, have I mentioned that before at all? It's a great song so buy it! Strangly, I've also been getting into the Super Furries recently, but I can't understand why everyone hates Oasis. Is it jealousy? Fair enough, I don't like their egos, but the music is top-class. 'All Around the World' was one of the best songs I have ever heard, as was Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall, Roll with it, Supersonic, Live Forever, The Masterplan... I could go forever with this list. Is it like a similar situation with Man Utd fans- 'cause their so arrogant and successful no-one likes them? Let me know- I'm confused.

HeadCleaner at 8:44:26 Friday February 6 98
And my all-time favourite LP is "Doolittle" by The Pixies.

HeadCleaner at 8:43:13 Friday February 6 98
Rowan, I admire your passion. I will stand by Warm Jets however. Whilst maybe not massively original, no-one else is doing the sort of Wire-like New Wave thing that they do, and do so well. I grew up listening to stuff like that, so it's great for me to hear that kind of material back in vogue. I agree with you 100% about Ultrasound. Live, they fried my brain - they are awesome. And Idlewild are not only good because they are punk - they are also from Edinburgh and therefore beyond reproach.

Rowan at 21:18:23 Thursday February 5 98
Guy didn't need to put me up to it. Local Boy is brilliant and there are certainly no better singles out next week (I think) Sorry, but I really think that 'plastic shine on the face of the world blah blah blah on the face of the world, blah blah blah on the face of the world...etc, is just really unoriginal, especially with that dull palm muted riff under it. Although the bit where the guitar goes all wah wah for a few seconds is cool. I might have given it 7/10. I'M SORRY GUY BUT THERE IS NO WAY THAT WAR JETS ARE MORE ORIGIANL THAN ULTRASOUND, who are actually quite an original and 'different' band Idlewild are good cos' they're punky and ultrasound are honestly the best live band I've seen (better than phonics even!) And the bassist from warm jets blatently tries to impersonate Nicky Wire by doing those bouncy jumps and pulling those cheesy grins whilst on stage. Any way what's everyones fave album of all time?? mine is THE HOLY BIBLE. By the way headcleaner- well done for hating embrace- the biggest pile of shit since oasis. I really hate the fact that NME and MM actually like them!!! GUY- WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR COPY OF LOOKS LIKE CHAPLIN???? wvisit my homepage and vote for stereophonics.... http://www.angelfire.com/mn/manicstreetpreachers Super furries are pretty cool...........

Guy at 13:1:50 Thursday February 5 98
Just a quick message today. I actually prefer Warm Jets to Ultrasound and Idlewild- they're more original. And I despise K**a S****r, so how you can make that comparison God only knows. Did I mention 'Local Boy...' is re-released on Monday?

Gregov #1 at 20:54:55 Wednesday February 4 98
Local boy in the photograph by Stereophonics..hmm. nice.

HeadCleaner at 9:36:4 Wednesday February 4 98
Your threats cannot harm me, my wings are like a shield of steel.

Guy at 9:26:11 Wednesday February 4 98
Don't look at me! I didn't put him up to it! HONEST! But- I couldn't have said it better myself! I know you like Local Boy Keith- I have faith in you. Please do not disappoint me.

rowan at 19:40:28 Tuesday February 3 98
HEY HEADCLEANER>> YOU BETTER GIVE LOCAL BOY IN THE PHOTOGRAPH SOTW ON THE 9TH (YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO!) STEREOPHONICS ARE BRILLIANT!!! BTW: IF YOU WANNA GET INTO A NEW BAND CHOOSE ULTRASOUND OR IDLEWILD NOT WARM JETS (JUST A SHIT KULA SHAKA)

me at 17:27:20 Sunday February 1 98
hello, if ne1 here likes stereophonics, ultrasound or idlewild please mail me!!!!

Guy at 10:11:19 Friday January 30 98
Just a note to say 'Local Boy in the Photgraph' is re-released on the 9th Feb. Don't forget. Also, did you see Travis on the NME Brat shows on C4 in the week? Although they only played two songs, they were very good. One of these days I'll get around to buying the album. What does everyone think of the Presidents of the USA split? I quite liked them, especially cult songs like 'Peaches' and 'Lump'.

Guy at 9:47:41 Wednesday January 28 98
The Verve? THE BLOODY VERVE? Best bloody band, best bloody record, best bloody video (well OK with that one), and best bloody album? What is wrong with the world? OK they're good, but no-where near Oasis or Blur. Someone slap the NME.

Greg at 21:30:42 Monday January 26 98
Oh yeah, check out 'evey day i fall apart' by superstar. wow.

Greg (disgruntled) OK. at 21:29:33 Monday January 26 98
No Guy I've seen them live twice now and first time they blew me away, but second time it wasn't there. I love 'em don't get me wrong, it's just that bands need some character, somebody for the fans to warm to. Maybe kelly is still learning but they will be huge in 98.

Guy at 10:33:46 Monday January 26 98
Did you hear them last night on Radio One? Weren't they f***ing brilliant? Didn't you just LOVE Carrot Cake and Wine? That came over so well live. By the way Greg, if you want entertainment and comedy- it's best to stay in and watch the telly. If you want to hear class music without egomaniacs singing their own praises, go and see the Stereophonics. I prefer to use the term 'No Holds Barred' than 'Competent'. Maybe I should have warned you earlier. Who wants words when you can have music?

Greg. at 20:32:59 Tuesday January 20 98
They played an extremely competent set, but it all seemed a bit rock-by-numbers and Kelly does himself no favours by exhibiting zero charisma. A mumbled 'thankyou' after each song is just crap. Come on! Again no acoustic Billy Davey's daughter, but Traffic was superb. The crowd knew every word, so they are certain;y catching on and I can see them being really big. I just don't want them to become a Welsh oasis.

Guy at 14:31:10 Tuesday January 20 98
Come on then Greg, review and comments please! Did they play any new stuff? One more thing, I've not got so much time for this sort of stuff any more, so my visits will be less frequent.

Greg. at 20:40:0 Saturday January 17 98
I like that song by libido, haven't got A clue what it's callec. Also the new dance mix of Brimful of asha is ace, I'm gonna buy it. Guy, I'm off to see the 'phonics tomorrow.

Guy at 10:30:55 Friday January 16 98
Just been browsing through the single reviews. Only one(two) disagreement(s). Ian Brown's My Star is a fantastic piece of work, and although I never really liked the Stone Roses, surely this one deserved at least 8/10. Also Bernard Butler, 6/10? Pah. In Greg's words- bland bland bland bland bland. Totally average. -10/10 would be more appropriate. Also it's a rip-off of an old Ant & Dec song. Just one more thing, how are the Dandys doing lately?

Guy Walsh at 10:13:35 Friday January 16 98
Hope everyone had a good christmas and new year. I've been away for a bit, but I'm back now. Also my e-mail isn't working for the timebeing, I'll let you know again when it is. Anyway, Stereophonics re-release Local Boy... again in Feb. followed possibly by a new single in the spring. Make sure you all buy them. Also LIVE on radio 1 on the 25th Jan. I got the best criggy pressie! A copy of Looks Like Chaplin/More Life... (one of only 500 copies produced) on 7" vinyl. Just bought Macca'a 'Flaming Pie', a true work of art. In response to the 'only 2 sides' quote, these sides can be split down to reveal sides such as happy, sad, angry, drunk, high etc.

GREG at 18:13:13 Saturday January 10 98
Come on 'cleaners. As The Boo Radley's once sang, 'WAKE UP!'

GREG at 16:11:31 Sunday January 4 98
Shit, I haven't won the cd's! Oh well, I'm off to see ; Stereophonics, Asian Dub Foundation, Warm jets and The Audience (?) at the NME brat tour on the 18th. I'll cling to thAT crumb of comfort, I cannot believe Ian Rush has jus scored. That's it I'm not going to the match anymore.

GREG O'KEEFFE at 13:15:28 Wednesday December 31 97
Great singles of the year list, I'll have to seriously check out The Warm jets. I've only heard 'hurricaine' and that was a bit weak, the lead singer is going out with Zoe Ball (lucky scamp!) Happy new year to all my fellow 'cleaners. Have a good'un.

HeadCleaner at 19:23:42 Wednesday December 24 97
As the Great Shakey once sang - "Merry Christmas, Everyone!"

Nick Sim at 22:44:50 Monday December 22 97
I dug out my brother's 2 Become 1 single the other day - it is bloody good, innit? Shame about the new stuff!

Greg. at 12:50:27 Monday December 22 97
Oh yes!!!!!! The Teletubbies have fallen, let me be the first to revel in their demise. The public has a conscience, The Spice girls are NUMBER 1. errrmmm. well, I suppose the spicies are the better of the two evils. Oh yeah, Merry Christmas!

Greg at 18:52:8 Sunday December 21 97
Seve, Travis' debut album 'Good Feeling' ia an amazing debut, probably the best since Definitely Maybe. It is trad rock with little pretence, but the tunes are outstanding. Fran's voice is mercurial. See the nuances he wrings out of the word 'hey' on all I wanna do is rock.

Seve at 23:2:39 Tuesday December 16 97
I was going to cause a fight to stir things up, but I;ve been quite busy. How about this? I heard people talking about Travis, and I stumbled upon their single "Happy". After a few listens, I decided I quite liked it - however, I didn't really think the b-sides were outstanding - have they got anything else worth listening to?

HeadCleaner at 15:53:55 Monday December 15 97
Quiet here, innit? (cue the sound of a distant bell and tumbleweed blowing past)

Greg. at 20:29:9 Friday December 5 97
At the moment our songs are loud powe pop guitars, strong vocals with loadsa harmonies, big baselines and some cool drumming. I'm happy with the way it's going. The Cleaners is a good name! I agree it's gotta be speakeasy.

Simon at 14:28:20 Friday December 5 97
Curve Rule !!!

Simon at 14:21:21 Friday December 5 97
Give me a gun and i'd happily pop a cap in tipsy, la la, poo and dave's head, or whatever their names are.

HeadCleaner at 11:28:10 Friday December 5 97
Greg: Symphonic is a terrible name...far too derivative. Speakeasy is a lot better - what kind of music do you play? Of course, the best name for a band is The Cleaners...

HeadCleaner at 11:18:50 Friday December 5 97
Guy: only 2 sides?? I play music for when I'm happy, sad, hacked off, drunk, mellow, spaced out and more...that's why there's room in this world for Spice Girls, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Bjork, Prodigy, Portishead, All Saints, Travis, etc, etc, etc. I've still to find the mood I need to be in for the likes of Oasis, mind. Deaf?

Greg at 19:55:29 Thursday December 4 97
Guy, you are totally understood. Fair enough. Dodgy are quite goodish, I just can't like The seeds or dubstar sorry) but I get your point. Have you learnt any of the chords from the 'phonics web page? ANYWAY, I NEED YOU PEOPLE'S HELP ; The band I'm in have finished a demo tape, and our latest gig is on Saturday. So far were called(much to my anger) 'Symphonic' which I think is a crap name. Blatant rip off of Symposium and Stereophonics, and it's doesn't suit us. They love it. I's prefer 'Speakeasy' named after illegal underground 1920 U.S. drinking holes. Be honest. What do you think?

Guy at 14:29:9 Thursday December 4 97
Is no-one speaking to me anymore or something?...

Guy at 9:31:45 Thursday December 4 97
The way I see it is such: Everybody has two sides to their personality, in my case there's my rock side (Symposium, Stereophonics, Silver Sun etc.), and my softer, relaxing side (Lightning Seeds, Dodgy, Supernaturals, Dubstar). So put simply I don't think there is much of an arguement here. Surely all of you don't listen to the same stuff all the time? There must be something you relax to? Understand? If you want more pshycology, just let me know...

Guy at 13:43:14 Wednesday December 3 97
Look, the Lightning Seeds have always been my favourite band up until the Stereophonics came out. All their songs are fresh-faced pop and always lively. I'm not gonna start arguing again- BUT LAY OFF THE SEEDS. Admittantly Ian does not have much of a voice, but the recorded versions are, ahem, 'Perfect' As for Gary McAllister, he was still representing Scotland... And now you're got the might MacElliott- yes, I'm from Leicester, where the shops are shit and the music shops are worse. None of them keep a copy of anything. My mate had to get a copy of Song 2 on export from Japan, costing him £15!!!

HeadCleaner at 12:28:35 Wednesday December 3 97
It's my page - I'm allowed to be bitter!! Lightning Seeds best song was "Pure" - they should've stopped after that...

Seve at 12:27:44 Wednesday December 3 97
Guy, just out of interest, where do you live? I was just curious about you asking about buying a copy of Song 2 - surely you could buy one from the shops, they will still have it. Or were you trying to get it a bit cheaper, in case someone wanted rid of it? I could get you a copy if for some reason you couldn't get one, but I'm not going to sell mine! Leisure and Modern Life is Rubbish are probably closer to Blur than Parklife and the Great Escape. It looks like we will just have to agree to disagree over the overall quality of the album (suprise suprise!) Teletubbies: How can something that bad get so popular so quickly? Lighting Seeds: I may be completly biased against them, there is just somthing about Ian Broudie than annoys me. Plus he isn't much of a singer. 3 Lions: What a summer?!? You call that a success? What have I got to be jealous about? If it wasn't for slaphead hasbeen McAllister, we would have had at least a draw. You still seem to forget that you won nothing, and you embarassed yourself in front of Europe by constantly singing a song that made me cringe every time I heard it.

Greg O'Keeffe at 12:21:37 Wednesday December 3 97
Guy you're music taste so far has been ace but Lightening seeds? bland bland bland bland. How ddi thye get signed? It's just sheer injustice. Nobody else would get away with having a voice like Broudies, live it's even worse. I agree about the Scottish bitterness though, tut tut Keith. It's coming home!!!! (shit they wrote that didn't they? OK. One good song, cowritten with two comedians (how apt)).

Guy at 11:44:14 Wednesday December 3 97
Point One: Yes, the teletubbies must be killed. Point Two: The Lightning Seeds make fantatsic music and have never released a bad single. Point Three: Dreadful Three Lions heh? Not a tinge of scottish jealousy there is there? It's coming home, it's coming, football's coming home... What a summer!!

Guy at 11:39:19 Wednesday December 3 97
I don't really know the albums very well, because I have never bought any (apart from 'blur'. Initially I despised them because my mate loved them and never ever ever stopped playing their music, which, as you can imagine, became very irritating. I don't even know what order they came in. All I know is that of ALL the album tracks I heard- only their singles have a good quality feel to them. A lot of the other songs sound very rushed. However, the singles are BRILLIANT (all of them). BTW, does anyone have a copy of Song 2 they want to sell? If so e-mail me with a price. Guy.

HeadCleaner at 9:55:6 Wednesday December 3 97
Before "Blur" (and after "Leisure"), Blur's best stuff was the slow grand epics they did so well - such as The Universal and..erm...that French one with Laetitia from Stereolab ("Le Fin?"). I disliked most of "Parklife", "The Great Escape" was better and "Blur" is their best yet. Even though, I still have a soft spot for "Leisure"...

Seve at 20:48:15 Tuesday December 2 97
There was nothing wrong with Country House in the same way there is nothing wrong Barbie Girl. It's just a stupid, fun, song. The problem is that if you keep writing songs like that is you die off. I reckon Blur will be around for quite a while yet, because of the change they made. If they kept going with their bouncy bouncy songs, they would be finished. Charmless Man was pretty good, but The Universal was by far the best song on the album.

Greg at 18:48:59 Tuesday December 2 97
INDIE TOP EIGHT 8)Help the aged - Pulp. 7Every day I fall apart - Superstar. 6)Lately - Super8. 5)Nonstopoperation - Dust Junkies. 4)Delicious - Catherine wheel. 3)Lucky man - The Verve. 2)You can talk to me - The Seahorses. 1)She's looking for me - The Montrose Avenue.

Guy at 13:34:20 Tuesday December 2 97
Yes, I think you're right (God, what's got into me?). I prefered the earlier Blur albums and the change in style just wasn't to my tatse. Having said that, if Damon releases the new album with 28 songs on it, I'll probably like it!!! And what's wrong with Country House? Charmless Man is my favourite though. BTW, Local Boy in the Photograph(Stereophonics) is being re-released on 2nd Feb. Make sure you all buy it. B-sides yet to be confirmed. Still after Looks Like Chaplin. Will pay up to £15. Mail me if you can help.

Seve at 8:3:27 Tuesday December 2 97
An album nobody likes? I think what he said was that they aren't going to tour the next album, because it will be so musically complex that they won't be able to play it. I did mention Song 2 - it was the second single. The finished with it at the gig last night - cracking show, perhaps a bit too much very old stuff - but amazing versions of MOR and Chinese Bombs. And I have seen people go as crazy as everyone did when they eventually played Song 2.

Greg at 22:6:5 Monday December 1 97
I love Blur's new weezer-esuqe direction but sadly it will be shortlived. Damon announced recently he wants to make an album nobody likes with about 28 songs on. Seve, you didn't mention song 2. Class. By the way, Superstar are brilliant, from Keiths neck of the woods and they make some amazing guitar muzak. See 'breath' and 'Every day I fall apart.' Later

Seve at 15:31:36 Monday December 1 97
Guy, did you like the Great Escape? I think anyone who really liked Parklife/Great Escape would be dissappointed by the new one. I think the four singles were great, but on top of that you have Chinese Bombs, the upcoming single Death of the Party, and Moving On are cracking songs too. 7 very good songs out of 14 isn't bad. The only song that I can't be bothered with is the last one. Anyway, I'll tell you what the new songs are like live.

HeadCleaner at 11:48:39 Monday December 1 97
I agree with Seve here - I thought "Blur" a hugely impressive LP - especially after the pretentious excesses and pseudo-cockernee nonsense of "Parklife". "The Great Escape" was better, but it did have that awful "Country House" track on it...! Guy is right in that the singles are the best tracks on the LP, but what ace singles - and there have been 4 of them - a pretty high-quality hit rate.

Guy at 11:44:34 Monday December 1 97
Also, just bought the Syposium mini-album for £8, it's fantastic!! Get a review up Keith!!

Guy at 11:41:21 Monday December 1 97
Seve, I don't want to start up another argument, but I bought Blur's new album and was thoroughly disappointed by it. I like all the singles they have released from it, but I think it lacks quality in depth. I swapped it for Eels' album, which, although not brilliant, was better value for money.

Seve at 22:13:4 Sunday November 30 97
Hello, I'm back. I was the U2 fan from a while ago, but I promise not to mention them again. Anyway, I'm off to see Blur tomorrow night, and I was curious as to what people thought of them - I thought their last album was fantastic, yet it seems to have only got a lukewarm response. Oh, and I saw someones quote about Teenage Fanclub; why was it nice to see the getting a single of the week when all they have done with their new album is churn out a poor man's Grand Prix?

Guy Walsh at 9:35:48 Friday November 28 97
Shit. You could have told me before I re-entered... In case anyone is wondering, I have two e-mail addresses, and I often switch them around. So If you see an address like this one, it IS real.

HeadCleaner at 12:26:11 Thursday November 27 97
That was a joke, by the way...

Guy at 12:14:15 Wednesday November 26 97
Shit. You could have told me that before I entered...

HeadCleaner at 14:17:0 Tuesday November 25 97
Besides, anyone mentioning them in a bad light in the end of year poll is automatically disqualified from the draw...!!

HeadCleaner at 14:15:27 Tuesday November 25 97
I stand by that Spiceworld review. I'll admit at least one of those marks was probably just me being contary and backlashing against the backlash, but the bottom line is I think that LP's a damn good laugh. In the same way those "Best Disco LP In The World...Until The Next One!" compilations are a good laugh, or the Now LPs with the likes of Gala, Aqua and Clock are great LPs for putting on for a bit of lightweight relief. Spiceworld is no "OK Computer", but it's still a valid LP in its own right. But it looks like the Spice Girls time has come, right enough, so they probably won't be a point of argument for much longer...!

Guy at 13:45:51 Tuesday November 25 97
I actually now quite like Bittersweet Symphony, but I originally couldn't stand it. I love The Drugs Don't Work, but again Lucky Man is bland and boring. Still not heard the album, although I'm borrowing it off a mate this week. But again, one thing I must agree on - Spiceworld? 4/5? Pah! Sorry Keith but...

Greg at 23:14:53 Monday November 24 97
Keith, I actually quite like The Verve. The songs seem to just carry me along, and I find 'Bittersweet symphony' quite uplifting. Which is admirabel considering it get's played to death. 'Sonnet' and 'Rolling people' also stand out on the album. The Verve are lucky however as they are clearly media darlings, and I doubt most bands could get away with releasing 'lucky man' which is bland. ciao.

HeadCleaner at 22:42:35 Monday November 24 97
Sorry, I just don't get The Verve - what am I missing??

Nick at 21:28:23 Monday November 24 97
Nice to see Teenage Fanclub getting an SOTW but I'm beginning to doubt the credibility of your reviews - Spiceworld 4/5 and the Verve 4/10? My god.

Greg O'Keeffe at 15:1:44 Sunday November 23 97
Hiya, Nice to be back, been mighty busy this week. I cannot wait to catch Travis on tour soon, Guy they MUST be seen live, on par with the 'phonics. I'm really impressed with 'Ether' especially 'best friend.' Which may be their next single. December it is then.

HeadCleaner at 12:38:33 Thursday November 20 97
Travis appear to be concentrating on touring this winter. Supporting Oasis again on their December tour, then embarking on a tour of their own later that month. The chart position was a bit of a disappointment - lack of airplay would be mainly to blame. New bands - check out Super 8, Six By Seven and Ether.

Guy Walsh at 11:1:18 Wednesday November 19 97
Take it we're starting afresh then. I'll be the first with a message on this nice, clean page. If anyone has a copy of Stereophonics 'Looks Like Chaplin' single I will pay good money for it. Does anyone know of any good up-and-coming band they can recommend? Greg, what's happened to Travis recently? Time was when they would send me a postcard on their mailing list every week. I've not heard anything for about 4 weeks now!! I also have to say that 'Happy' only reaching number 38 was a complete traversty (or Travisty) of justice. However I was skint at the time so I didn't help. I still want to buy it though. Anyway, that's enough blabbering for now, see you soon. Guy.
