no, it is ACE!!! arrrrgh
Rowan at 19:24:47 Friday July 17 98
Naaa, its rubbish. Keith, howz about a new guestbook?
Mylene Jenius at 16:58:28 Friday July 17 98
Rowan> Didn't see Chicks, sadly. I bet they were ace, though. Danny's voice is fookin' ace! He has a wonderful vibrato and sustains gorgeously. Nyah.
Rowan at 13:16:30 Friday July 17 98
Oh, my god im visitor 10,000 - do i get a prize?
HeadCleaner at 9:10:10 Friday July 17 98
4 hits to go to the big 10,000 visits for HeadCleaner. Half of them are probably me, mind you. Still, I shall do my best to get some new content - other than single reviews - up on the site very soon as way of celebration. Watch the skies.
HeadCleaner at 6:16:1 Friday July 17 98
Hey, at least I'm consistent...
Rowan at 22:32:35 Thursday July 16 98
Danny embrace has a bad voice and the chicks were rubbish on jo whiley....but they did look sweetly innocent and very nervous. I'll probably buy it...
Rowan at 22:29:14 Thursday July 16 98
Keith> you got the title of the new idlewild song wrong...3 times
HeadCleaner at 21:30:17 Thursday July 16 98
He's still a wanker though.
Mylene Jenius at 20:13:35 Thursday July 16 98
I just saw an old message which said that Danny McNamara has a bad voice. BOLLOCKS. I am prepared to argue this point to my death, and as I have been doing singing training since I was eight, you will be hard pressed to avoid my arguments. Nyahaha. He has a wonderful voice. so
Mylene Jenius at 20:8:42 Thursday July 16 98
Andy> This is their first single, so BUY IT!! It is amazing.
Greg> If they were on Jo Whiley, i missed it. Bollocks. Travis are also good. Am I in Holland?! No...why should I be? ;)
Greg. at 19:16:2 Thursday July 16 98
Chicks? Are they the young lasses who were on Jo Whiley in the last episode. Strerophonics are living up to the media's hype, quietly establishing themselves, meanwhile Travis are doing not a tap. I don't mind theaduience's new single. Silver Suns is fantastic, although covers already is a bit worrying. By the way,Mylene are you in Holland?
Andy at 9:26:15 Thursday July 16 98
Mylene J - that Chicks single rocks! do you know if they've done any other stuff?
Mylene Jenius at 18:47:33 Wednesday July 15 98
Greg, the Pecadiloes are quite crap. I just liked this one song. Other bands?? I have a huge list but I will just name a few. Presently I am obsessed with Chicks, because they are ace. My other favourites are Ash, Kenickie, Gene, Bluetones, EMBRACE (they are good!!!), Stereophonics, Tanya Donelly, Fire Bomber, Theaudience, SilverSun and a LOT of others.
HeadCleaner at 22:41:11 Tuesday July 14 98
A big tube of UHU, a distortion pedal, punk til ya puke
Anon at 21:40:47 Tuesday July 14 98
a large whisky, an acoustic guitar, the blues softly strummed
Rowan at 20:34:57 Tuesday July 14 98
Thanks for the scans keith. Got them seconds after I uploaded my page so I'll put them up tommorrow. Embrace are awful but it seems that people in this country honestly do like awful music...

Greg. at 19:53:28 Tuesday July 14 98
Mylene, I haven't heard much of The Pecadiloes are they good?? What do they sound like, what other bands do you like??
Rowan at 16:25:57 Tuesday July 14 98
Keith, I havn't got the pics yet, have you sent them to the wrong address?
Mylene Jenius at 22:34:54 Monday July 13 98
Pecadiloes, out for ages?! Bollocks. I couldn't find it anywhere - why? arrrgh. I didn't realise it was already out.
Greg. at 21:55:9 Monday July 13 98
That's a Scot for you. Scottish Samaritans should play an advert of David Batty missing Englands penalty with the caption, 'Look, life's not all that bad!' Rowan you sciver, where are you off?? I've finally given up on convincing anybody that Embrace are not awful (odd considering my earlier hatred when they were media darlings, it wasn't jealousy!!) Is the High Fidelity the one with the big bass drum going 'Love is such a game and I don't want to play' with the video ripped off from 'Air.'??????
Rowan at 19:18:50 Monday July 13 98
Thanks keith> mucho appreciatos. The pecodillos single has been out for ages. I got the seafood single today (it was out when I said it would be) It's bloody fantastic. Greg> I'll be on holiday from the 25th july :>(
HeadCleaner at 15:44:44 Monday July 13 98
Great - is he dead? Rowan - Idlewild single cover (and inside band photo) scan will be with you this evening.
Greg (and I wonder, yes I wonder who'll stop the rain {creedance clearwater revival}) at 15:32:26 Monday July 13 98
The Pecadiloes album is out now is it not? We are on Hollyoaks probably on MONDAY 27th JULY, at 6.30pm. Gig went well, us, a verve clone called Later, and Manchester band 'Lovechild.'
Au revoir Jimmy Hill, you're irreverance and funny bow ties will be missed.
Mylene Jenius at 22:31:19 Saturday July 11 98
When is Kirsten's Beach by the Pecadiloes out? It is driving me mad, I must have this song!
Rowan at 15:33:22 Saturday July 11 98
Keith> please can you send me a scan of the idlewild cover on monday? Thanks

Voycie at 14:14:5 Friday July 10 98
band names hmmm....
think gadgets..how about 'toaster'?. Yeah. I can see the song lyrics to 'tefal thick and thin' now...
Now you know by heart that I'm not a boaster, but I've got a tefal thick and thin toaster, theres no need to buy a sliced loafer, 'cos this little sucker 'll cook yer sofa......
And you've got a Russel Hobbs microchip, how dare you buy such a load of shit, 'cos tefals are the only one, if your Russel Hobbs fits, shove it up your bum.......
etc.
HeadCleaner at 13:1:16 Friday July 10 98
Pint of Tennents over here, whenever you like, thank you. And have you been on Hollyoaks yet??
MANTRA at 12:26:5 Friday July 10 98
Anybody in the Merseyside region....Come and see MANTRA live on Saturday 11th July at The Cavern Club, Matthew street. Around 2pm.
Greg. at 12:24:48 Friday July 10 98
I'll bet you a pint of your finest ale.
HeadCleaner at 8:47:16 Wednesday July 8 98
How much would you like to bet that I've never hummed along to a Crowded House record...?
Rowan at 21:3:33 Tuesday July 7 98
em...not bad. I quite like the unbelievalbe truth track...and hate arab strap. the idlewild address is: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Arena/4546/main.html - sign the guestbook
yes, again. at 18:41:5 Tuesday July 7 98
Half Miler sound cool. Rowan, band names : Speakeasy, plane radio, sonic lift, The Jessies, all thought up in 2 seconds. (The Jessies? forget I typed that).
Greg. at 18:33:29 Tuesday July 7 98
As for Arab strap. THAT IS NOT MUSIC. IT'S JUST NOT. There are lads in my college who can recount shagging tales, half pissed whilst strumming a guitar. Do people buy that???? I am becoming dissolusioned. I'm going to go and listen to The Beach Boys, The Beasties (Paul's boutique) and get cross atlantic.
Greg, I'm just shocked O'Keeffe. at 18:30:59 Tuesday July 7 98
Keith I am shocked. Crowded House , although shamelessly plagarising from the Beatles, wrote splendid shimmering acoustic pop tunes which I bet, I bet you've hummed along to. Neil Finn is an excellent songwriter. As for Del Amirti if somebody hears a song e.g. roll to me, likes it, and buys it, they like music, end of, Although yes they are rather crap in an amusing way.
HeadCleaner at 21:36:3 Monday July 6 98
Is it safe to say you don't like it then? 'sfair enough: opinions are what makes the world spin round...even if yours is wrong. Guess BBR are one of those love/hate kind of bands. Like Arab Strap. Who I hate. And you love. Funny old world, innit?
andrew. again at 21:11:17 Monday July 6 98
arse. messed it up by putting my e-mail address instead of URL. apologies for wasting space on the board with my ramblings. the URL of the air page is: http://www.btinternet.com/~andrew.skilton. really going now.
andrew at 21:8:38 Monday July 6 98
i've never written on here before, but i've never really disagreed with anything strongly enough to bother. but - black box recorder getting single of the week? what the hell's going on? that song is the shitest, dullest, most boring thing i've heard in ages, and it uses pathetic minamilism (can't spell) to cover up the fact there's no tune or originality in it all. that's my view. feel fee to disagree completely.
on a different note, if anyone readiong this is interested in air, visit my new website about them. the address is magically attached to my name.
rowan - sorry for missing it, but can you post the address of your idlewild site? i wanna go and have a look. ta.
the end. bye.
Rowan at 23:24:26 Friday July 3 98
Can ne1 think of any decent original band names?
The bassist came up with 'Lounge act' (nirvana song) because we practice in his lounge. What do you think?
Rowan at 17:32:31 Wednesday July 1 98
Everyone moans about us 'always losing on pens' but dont forget we beat spain.
Greg. at 17:25:40 Wednesday July 1 98
David fucking Beckham. I've never fele prouder of ten men I've never met before than last night. But why is it always us that go ut on pens?
Greg at 17:23:8 Wednesday July 1 98
What is bollock? Come on don't be vague.
Rowan at 23:16:0 Tuesday June 30 98
Bollocks
Rowan at 20:38:58 Monday June 29 98
I'm not actually 100% sure the seafood single is out today. I'll check out the back of this weeks nme. The sonic youth single is cool but they only play that amazing de-tuned riff at the start of the song and don't repeat it which is a shame. The mansun single is great. Will it not be elligiable for the charts?
Greg at 19:37:14 Monday June 29 98
Hey, the man has style. All the Big band crooners from that era have an untouchable cool that many frontmen today would love, but Sinatra was the best. I dare anybody to listen to 'In the wee small hours' and not be touched by his voice. It's almost perfect. As for Nirvana they were clever, 'teenage angst sells.'
HeadCleaner at 18:59:48 Monday June 29 98
Absolutely, Rowan. Check out the Sonic Youth review this week for a reference to Kurt and one of his songs. Sorry - I couldn't track down the Seafood single this week, I did try. Tony Bennet...? Gordon Bennet.
Rowan at 18:23:16 Monday June 29 98
I've just dug out 'Nevermind' and given it a play. You can forget how amazingly brilliant it is...
Dom at 19:58:37 Sunday June 28 98
The Fun Lovin Criminals new song 'Barry White' is superb!!!!!!!!!
Greg. at 19:11:49 Sunday June 28 98
How about Tony Bennet then? Fantastic. It don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing.
Rowan at 12:18:21 Sunday June 28 98
His voice is not good which is made all the worse by the fact that he tries to come across as a great singer. Many bands (including Idlewild) would be hard pressed to boast what you might call a diverse and truely competant singer but it doesn't matter because they don't profess to greatness. I'm very impressed with Mansun who seemed very good.
Keith> review the seafood single on monday - it's v.good
Greg. at 13:8:18 Saturday June 27 98
I'm sorry but Embrace at Glastonbury were magnificent, marred only slightly by Danny McNamara's Ashcroft-isms which he didn't need. They're gonna be huge.
HeadCleaner at 14:45:15 Sunday June 21 98
All you can probably determine from his IP address is what service provider he uses. Type the IP address into your browser and see what comes up.
Rowan at 21:43:23 Saturday June 20 98
please someone help me! If I have someones IP address, what use is that to me? Can I get their e-mail address too? It's cos, I got period daves i.p but not e-mail address from writing bad stuff in the guestbook. Anywayt, please help!
Andy at 9:30:56 Wednesday June 17 98
rowan - yep, i know i like midget. they are far from my favourite band, but i do their official homepage, which would suggest i thought they were quite good. yet another band that does music without
any pretences. do you have a point to make?
Greg. at 22:54:49 Tuesday June 16 98
I oftern wonder what people find wrong with power pop. I think it's the connotations with the word 'pop'. This is dumb as pop just means popular. Idlewild, Travis, The Sex Pistols were all pop bands in a way. Let pop loose it's semantic baggage.
Rowan at 21:31:23 Tuesday June 16 98
Keith> make sure you review seafoods fierce panda single next week, it's ace (live)
Rowan at 21:27:56 Tuesday June 16 98
Andy likes midget, no, honestly
Andy at 12:3:9 Tuesday June 16 98
oh well, i'll let you off then! have to disagree about them on record though. "how ace are buildings" is the best thing
i've heard since honeycrack unleashed "prozaic" on an unsuspecting world; it was the album of '97, and probably will
be the album of '98 too when its re-released in 2 weeks with bonus vinyl featuring lots of idiotness. bring it on!
HeadCleaner at 9:43:37 Tuesday June 16 98
I had a cold and was in a bad mood yesterday (could you tell..?). I've seen A live before and thought they were excellent - never really been sure about them on record however. "Number One" was pretty good, but they sound too polished on record to blow me away...
Andy at 9:23:6 Tuesday June 16 98
I spied this in the reviews section about A: "Although they would like to think they are the UK's answer to Rocket From The Crypt". excuse me? excuse me? if rocket ever wrote something as exciting as Foghorn, mindblowing as bad idea or fun as some of A's b-sides, then do point me in the direction. A are THE best band in the country right now, maybe they ain't original, but enjoyment wise, they kick the big arse. i've had it with bands that don't excite, and thats where A excel. punk pop extraordinaires. i have deep feelings of sympathy for people who don't "get" them, as they are missing out on smiling.
Greg. at 22:54:31 Monday June 15 98
British music is categorically not dead! We are simply on a slight decline beacuse there have been no mindblowing albums lately. A few months back after Radiohead released OK Computer and the Chemicals did their thang the scene never looked healthier Although the market is a little saturated, too many bands signed then dropped. The British music industy is not dead :Travis, Stereophonics,Idlewild, Gomez, are all bubbling under. It's not really an issue.
Rowan at 19:9:3 Monday June 15 98
Ether, what a terrible band. A, what an average to dull band. I suppose Gomez are actually pretty cool. Some tossers been writing abusive entries in my guestbook. Obviously I've edited it and cussed him a bit. When he inevitably comes back to see what everyone has to say about him, I'll get his email address thanks to my new tracking device on the guestbook.....and then we shall see!
Greg. at 19:1:45 Sunday June 14 98
At the end of the day, a front cover with a burning guitar and the title British Music is dead will sell more than, 'British music is kinda on a temporary decline'. I know it caught my eye in HMV yesterday. I think Get Myself Arrested by Gomez must be one of the singles of '98 so far. Did the recording for t.v. today. Us and a young Glasgow band. Went well. later.
HeadCleaner at 15:6:37 Friday June 12 98
I think the NME are making two very different points/observations. Firstly, their broad assumption that British music is dead is just stirring things...look at Ultrasound, Idlewild, Massive Attack, Warm Jets, the Chemikal Underground bands. No signs of rotting corpses there. Their other point was more valild however: the decline of record labels now that they are - or soon will be - faced with the threat of purchasing music online. However, to lump this together under a scaremongering "British music is dead" banner is a bit ridiculous.
Guy at 13:56:4 Friday June 12 98
If British music i dead, it's the fault of the music press anyway! This is my last message. I will be back on the 24th June for one last goodbye, the that's it. I promise this time... However, Greg, PLEASE hurry the new tape to me I badly want to hear it- You've got your first big fan! Imaginatively Titled Fanzine back on-line on July 1st- monthly updated and redesigned! No college probs now- I've finished! Bye!...
Andy at 13:46:36 Friday June 12 98
if (as these people are claiming) british music is dead, then what i have i been spending all my money on this past year? a bunch of excellent albums by bands that just pretend they are british?
Guy at 12:1:41 Friday June 12 98
Yep, that sound's more like it to me. Back to the Silver Sun point though, 'Too Much Too Little Too Late' is nowhere near similar to the first album, so I don't know how you can say that. Also, on the album are many different styles- Dumb, Lava, Animal's Feet and Bad Haircut were completely different songs! I think the new album will be more mature and have a better all-round sound to it. I think you're writing them off too early Keith- They've only released one album for God's sake!
HeadCleaner at 10:20:43 Friday June 12 98
That's that cleared up then...So, does everyone think that British music's dead, as the NME and Alan McGee are claiming, or do you think they just got bored on day when there was nothing else to write and are trying to stir things up a bit...?
Andy at 9:31:58 Friday June 12 98
righty. and i was just trying to justify it!
Rowan at 21:5:20 Thursday June 11 98
Listen Andy, i'm not cussing silver sun only but i think any band who releases a whole ep of covers is making a big mistake!
Anon at 19:47:19 Thursday June 11 98
Too much, too little, too late.
oh yes.
Andy at 9:16:49 Thursday June 11 98
oops, i posted that.
Anon at 9:16:23 Thursday June 11 98
rowan: do you know the band NOFX? do you think they are punk rock? the lead singer in that band, fat mike, is also in a covers band called "me first and the gimme gimme's". its a common thing in the US for punk bands to do cover versions. so why not here?
Rowan at 21:3:11 Wednesday June 10 98
Anyone who claims to be 'punk rock' (or whatever) and then releases an ep of cover versions has a screw or two loose in my opinion.
HeadCleaner at 13:45:5 Wednesday June 10 98
Fair point...but their sound - that of dragging the Beach Boys kicking and screaming into a post-punk world - is a little samey and I've got a bit tired of it. Heard in isolation, the singles like "Lava" and "Last Day" are still damn fine, but I'm not convinced Silver Sun have much more to offer.
Andy at 13:32:4 Wednesday June 10 98
silver sun have a bit of punk about them surely - remember lava? punk pop more than punk rock though. i think you're writing them off too soon, none of the proper new stuff has been heard yet. as for one trick pony - listen to the album again, its hardly the same song being repeated over and over.
HeadCleaner at 12:38:15 Wednesday June 10 98
Calling Silver Sun punk-rock is like saying B*witched are classical musicians...power pop, perhaps, but Silver Sun's brand of that has got old very quickly - they're a bit of a pedestrian one-trick pony. And none of their cover versions exactly set the house ablaze now, did it...?
Watch Out I'm Gonna Disagree Again - Guy at 12:24:31 Wednesday June 10 98
KEEEEEEEEEEITH! 5/10 for Silver Sun? Are you insane? That is the single of the year (OK I know I've said that before but I mean it this time). I gave it 12/10! It's simply orgasmic! I thought you liked all that punk-rock stuff? Mind you I haven't heard the originals so it's all new to me. I think you're doing it deliberatly now aren't you?

A blatant plug. Does anyone here really like Pulp? If so, are you familiar with a site called "Space"? If y'are, you might be interested to know that I'm its new editor and we're currently looking for reviews from fans (and from people who hate their guts) to put on the site's discography. The new URL is http://listen.to/pulp - any contributions can be mailed to me. We'll print almost anything we receive, so long as we've got a name to put it to...
Cheers

Andy at 12:4:20 Tuesday June 9 98
its not out till july, right?
Rowan at 10:41:39 Tuesday June 9 98
Well then Andy, I'll look forward to the review
Andy at 10:7:21 Tuesday June 9 98
rowan: heheh, sure i'd give it 8 on collective. if a band does something of merit, then you have to be honest about it don't you? its by far and away the best thing they've done (that i have heard anyway)
Rowan at 20:16:41 Monday June 8 98
whats that andy, you're liking an Idlewild song.....will you be giving it 8/10 at collective though...or would that go against your prrincpals too much
Andy at 11:5:0 Monday June 8 98
rowan: yup, its worth £20, but are you about to sell it? not likely is it, so price is not really that big a deal. i don't care how much my records are worth, so long as i like the music, though i admit its pretty cool to have something that no-one else does! i also have to admit that the new idlewild song is actually a good 'un (arrgh), i'd give it 8 out of 10 on one listen. still, the likes of All, Foil, 30 Amp Fuse and China Drum have done similar & better punk efforts..
Rowan at 20:53:21 Sunday June 7 98
Just heard the official recorded version of Idlewild's next single 'Everyone Says You're So Fragile' and I can honestly say that after a few listens and as long as the volume is pumped up it's quite a little gem. Although less sophisticated (sorry, couldn't thinkk of a better word) than the last one bust for shear rockabilty it really kicks!
Ultrasound got to number 30 which is pretty good.
Greg. at 20:17:34 Saturday June 6 98
Oh no, I mean in case anybody says that!
Annoying,
Rowan at 12:22:55 Saturday June 6 98
That's cool - do paranoid android instead!!!!
Seems the person who wrote the letter is very confused.
Greg. at 23:43:41 Friday June 5 98
Thanks Guy, look forward to it. MANTRA have actually been given the opportunity to appear on t.v. We are doing some filming for (don't laugh) 'Hollyoaks'. The plot is they go to a fictional glastonbury esque festival , and they've hired us to be onstage. We get to go by our name, but have to perform a cover in due to the legal problems of doing one of ours(i.e. some twat says,'hey I wrote that.) We picked 'Happy' by Travis and the producer got permission from Independiente. Shooting is on Monday 15th June. I'll post the dates it's on t.v.!!!!!
Rowan at 19:2:45 Friday June 5 98
Why is everyone talking bollocks. Andy> yeah, I know they have other songs, but I think it's much better when bands release a few limited edition 7"s.
For example, I got the Stereophonics 'Looks Like Chaplin' on 7" and CD and at the moment they're worth around £25. The Idlewild debut 'Queen Of The Troubled Teens' which I also have a copy of is already woth around £30, and Idlewild have had one top 60 hit and at the moment are no where near as popular or as good selling band as Stereophonics. Now imagine how much the Stereophonics debut would be worth if it hadn't been put on the album.... I'm in to all that limited edition 200 only green and yellow 7" stuff - am I abnormal or do other people agree. The best limited edition I have is a Seafood (who are BRILLIANT, FANTASTIC, OUT OF THIS WORLD) 7" which is hand numbered (mine is no. 87 out of 169) and has a unique sleeve with a finger painting by the band.
Frankly, the new Embrace single is shit and so was the last one. I havn't heard the others so I couldn't comment. Ocean Colour Sceen are, in my opinion anyway worse than Shed Seven and releasing 'It's a wonderful thing' was simply comical.
Unfortuantly Keith, it sounds like the new Manics LP is gonna be just about as far away from a 'Generation Terrorists sound' as you can get, but I wouldn't write of a sound in the same vien as No Surface All Feeling. Keyboards are the worst instrument in the world, apart from the trumbone. I actually thought most of the B-sides from 'Everything Must Go' singles weren't that good. 'Sepia' was pretty cool though from Kevin Carter.
Best Manics song(s)= P.C.P, DIE IN THE SUMMERTIME, MOTORCYCLE EMPTINESS (not the album version which sounds crap), CRUCIFIX KISS
the best album is certainly the Holy Bible.
All we can do is pray that they don't produce a steaming pile of cack.
I'm off to see Idlewild on 9th of July - can't wait.

Guy at 10:17:47 Friday June 5 98
Backed 100%! All the quality bands (Travis, Stereophonics, Manics etc.) produce quality b-sides. I once bought an Ocean Colour Scene CD... you should have heard the tosh on the b-side. Greg- That Mantra demo is {swear}ing fantastic. Get that new one to me ASAP! I honestly believe it's {swear}ing class. If you don't get a record deal soon I'll start a company myself and sign you! The review will be on the fanzine next month, I've got to do it every month now and I've redesigned it. I've also started using IE4, and I just realised how shite my pages look through it! You can stick Embrace up your arse though!
HeadCleaner at 9:20:3 Friday June 5 98
Yeah, fair point...you want broad, sweeping statements, come to HeadCleaner!! Every band should at least be aware of those various epoch-defining records - what they decide to do after that is up to them...
Andy at 9:10:0 Friday June 5 98
if every band did that though, they'd end up sounding the same! and rowan, of course you can collect singles - they have "b-sides" (c-sides, d-sides...) on, right? any half decent band does quality "b-sides".
HeadCleaner at 8:44:56 Friday June 5 98
There are at least 3 LPs that every band should take as a reference point: Never Mind The Bollocks, Psychocandy by the Mary Chain and Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine.

Look it's not as if they're as bad as Oasis. More a Verve pastiche, and McNamara's voice is o.k. I used to hate them too, live they just seem arrogant but I tend to enjoy the songs, they do a nice line in piano ballads as well.
I like the new Pulp song even though it's a copy of Tears of a clown. Has anybody heard Sean Lennon's new song. 'Home' it's not bad. A sunny, grungey song. He's going for the 'cool vote' being on The Beaties Grand Royal, and stating Pet Sounds as a refernce point. Which it should be , I think Pet Sounds is as good if not better than Sgt. Pepper.
HeadCleaner at 21:59:1 Thursday June 4 98
The NME gave it 9/10, the MM 4.5 stars (I think). Both refer to it on the cover as "the brilliant new Embrace LP"...
Rowan at 20:52:24 Thursday June 4 98
yeah, couldn't get on the page earlier. I havn't got NME or MM yet. So what di they give the embrace lp?? I hate them, I really do. Also, on a slightly different note - isn't it so very annoying when a new band puts EVERY ONE of it's singles on it's debut long play! It means you can't collent singles

Apologies for lack of service today. My server was down - outwith my control.

The first letter has arrived on the Letters page...
HeadCleaner at 8:4:12 Thursday June 4 98
I totally agree (it will feature a duet with theaudience's Sophie Ellis, and feature a more keyboard-based sound to give it a "Simple Minds feel"). Short of a collaboration with Shed Seven, how worse could it get. Still, judge not until you hear - this is the Manics we're talking about after all, purveyors of a top tune every now and again. And whilst I'm here, what's all the fuss about the Embrace LP?? How many of the music press journos have the McNamara slept with to get reviews like that?? They're just a substandard Stars In Their Eyes Oasis wannabe band that are about as vital to new UK alternative music as George Formby.
Rowan at 21:34:28 Wednesday June 3 98

Covering Radiohead songs makes you realise what a good singer Thom is as well - he's got a pretty impressive range.

Arse. My email went belly up this morning - lost a subscribe message and a letter...if it was anyone here, please resend!
Greg at 23:14:59 Monday June 1 98
Karma police is easy too, what is street spirit, I guess Am, but else?? As far as contemporary guitarists go it's gotta be Greenwood, Bernard Butler, Andy Dunlop and Brian Noon. Now that the focal point(or should I say 'points' ooohh matron you are awful) of the spiceys has gone are they due to break up. I hope not the world would be a lot sadder. I kinda find 'come back to what you know, soul uplifting, trad I know. Cannot believed he dropped Gazza, but hey The Del Amitri world cup song is ace, 'don't come home too doon, even lone sharks make it).
later.
Rowan at 21:30:26 Monday June 1 98
Street Spirit is very easy to play as its basically only 3 chord positions. Once you learn it you just sort of do it automatically, without thinking about it...
Stay Young - I'll buy that
HeadCleaner at 9:45:43 Monday June 1 98
Football means nothing to me - you wanna talk about that, go elsewhere! Bah.
Guy at 9:32:2 Monday June 1 98
Greg, tape arrived today, listened once- sounds pretty impressive. I'm starting a new (part-time) job this week which should give me enough money to get on the 'net at home. Anyone recommend a cheap credit card with no annual fee? In the meantime, I'll be back to check my messages on Thursday, then Monday, then that's it. I've got time to write this now 'cos my work's finished and I haven't got anyhing to do. As I mentioned earlier, TITF will be offline (or stationary) until I can get access from home. I can't access their page to update it anymore. And what the hell is Hoddle playing at? You Scots can laugh, but we'll be laughing in 9 days time!
HeadCleaner at 8:14:19 Monday June 1 98
I think it's a wee bit unfair to criticise the Manics for taking some time off. After EMG was released, they spent a year solid touring it - they deserve a break...and if they come up with a new LP as good again it'll be worth the wait. As for Radiohead covers, my band do Street Spirit and Just, plus I can play No Surprises and Lucky on the keyboard. Their songs - fast or slow ones - are brilliantly written and constructed. Also Rowan - there's no Java on these pages - it's DHTML. Sad geek shit, I know, but there is a difference...
Rowan at 23:30:3 Sunday May 31 98
Maybe one day my band will be able to play 'Just' - shame the rest of them are total musical inadequates. (sic_). Anyone seen the new idlewild page layout - any comments? I'll try and do some java stuff like on this page soonish
Rowan at 23:28:6 Sunday May 31 98
Funny you should mention that Greg - I learnt how to play just the other day. My favourite bit is that lovely soft bit in the middle - genius. Jonny's just so atonal in his solos - they're much more interesting than these typical 'Oasis esque' (tm) solos - yawn. Gazza out of the England squad hey...oops wrong subject.
Rowan at 23:25:37 Sunday May 31 98
em...start my new job monday, which is nice. I might write you a letter soon Keith. Why are the Manics so fucking lazy??? - They took 2 less then two years to release EMG after the Holy Bible and we all know what happened smack bang in the middle of that. It's gonna be at least two and a half years from EMG to the next one!!! Hell, Idlewild's LP will arrive sooner.
HeadCleaner at 21:11:51 Sunday May 31 98
Geri, come back...!!
Greg. at 20:55:11 Sunday May 31 98
Yep, the lad Greenwood does well, but I still prefer his work on 'Just' the solo is pure genius, all tumblimg arpeggios and hendrix licks.
Rowan at 19:24:22 Saturday May 30 98
PARANOID ANDROID WAS BETTER THOUGH - I GUESS I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT SONG BECAUSE I'M A GUITARIST
Greg. at 14:43:28 Saturday May 30 98
