Good luck tonight Greg (I'm sure you don't need it!) Bugger! Haven't heard the new Stereophonics single yet but it's excellent anyway. 'Neo Wave', however, is the best album ever. Silver Sun rock!
Greg. at 22:5:11 Tuesday October 13 98
'Body movin' by the Beastie's is ace! They still got it. BTW anybody stuck for a listen should give the Money Mark album a go. Ultrasound, theres a band called coloursound now.
Rowan at 18:49:14 Tuesday October 13 98
Does ne1 here have icq? if so, my number is 20946460 (or my nichname is Row) seeya
Rowan at 19:48:25 Monday October 12 98
Embarressingly, from the moment I said ULTRASOUND were the best thing since sliced bread five or six months ago here, I think they've got pretty boring. Very AORish, don't like em anymore!
Greg. at 21:39:0 Sunday October 11 98
Cheers Nic, I knew that as soon as I clicked 'post.' Dumb jokes.
Nick at 22:46:18 Saturday October 10 98
Just thought I'd point out that it's supposed to be Monica Lewinsky witholding evidence, not Bill. Sorry, man.
Rowan at 22:21:45 Friday October 9 98
Just got a cassette copy promo of the new idlewild album - brilliant.
Rowan at 22:42:11 Thursday October 8 98
SEAFOOD will be releasing a (CD - gasp) mini album (a la idlewild) soon, which, unfortuantly includes their 3 singles to date (as in I have them all already) But I'll still buy it. I recommend it to any one. Not sure of a release date yet. U*Y's first album is the best in my opinion. (WE ARE URUSEI YATSURA)
Greg, again. at 21:0:43 Thursday October 8 98
What's this?-
(puff cheeks out)-
Bill Clinton withholding evidence! What is Bill's biggest regret? -Splashing out on that new dress. Boom Boom. I thank you.
Greg. at 20:58:33 Thursday October 8 98
Haven't heard the Stereophonics song but I presume it's no lightweight. I look forward to it. Rowan, I've still never heard Seafood!?! But I have listened to a bit of Uresi Yatsura(isthatright?) They're cool.
Greg. at 20:55:59 Thursday October 8 98
Hey!! Thankyouverymuch Mylene !! What do people here think of the new (well, remixed b-side) U2 single, 'the sweetest thing' complemented with Boyzone singing, and Shane Neary.
Mylene F. Jenius at 19:14:15 Thursday October 8 98
Greg, my sister is at Uni in L'pool, I'll get her to go and see you...
Rowan at 19:42:16 Wednesday October 7 98
God, the new stereophonics single rocks like hell! Have you heard it? It's waaayyyy heavier than anything else they've done.
Greg at 19:30:50 Wednesday October 7 98
Caught the Fun Lovin' Criminals at Liverpool Royal Court yesterday. They were ace, Ian McCulloch came on and did a duet with Huey. BTW Anybody in the Merseyside region on Wednesday 14th October come and see Mantra at the Liverpool Lomax. Doors 7.30pm.
Guy at 11:0:0 Wednesday October 7 98
Republica are poo. New e-mail address....

Single reviews up now - sorry for the delay.
Rowan at 19:16:42 Monday October 5 98
lol - it is dull though isn't it.
HeadCleaner at 12:41:56 Monday October 5 98
This week's single reviews will likely be delayed until tomorrow (I am going to see Ash this evening)
andrew at 22:9:45 Sunday October 4 98
i'm trying very hard not to be rude, but rowan - were you taking the piss? just curious. 'rabbit in your headlights' is the track on the UNKLE album featuring thom yorke....
Rowan at 13:11:45 Sunday October 4 98
Wow, I think a new radiohead song has just come on the radio. Very piano driven, strange drum beats. It may be called a rabbit in your headlights. Sounds kinda dullish, can't hear any guitar.
Nick at 21:19:23 Saturday October 3 98
Who cares if Steps' music is shit? It's funny, and those 3 birds - damn!
Mylene F. Jenius at 15:5:19 Saturday October 3 98
I quite agree, Greg. Steps are highly comical, and their dancing...well, it's just hysterical. I love the way they all take picnics and bike rides together and constatly hug and kiss!
Oh yeah, and they always wear all white. What is that about?!
Greg at 13:36:19 Saturday October 3 98
But seriously how funny are Steps. It's no use getting worked up like jay k on Jo Whiley this week. They're so camp, and eighties. I could happily watch the 'one for sorrow' video again and again. It's a form of comedy.
Me at 13:33:35 Saturday October 3 98
Sorry, that sounded snobby.
Rowan at 22:2:32 Friday October 2 98
Republica? Do you want me to die laughing?
HeadCleaner at 21:18:10 Friday October 2 98
Republica did put in a pretty poor performance on TOTP tonight...however, I do have a soft spot for them - they're a good time band, not pretending to be serious. A fair big old noise too...
Greg. at 20:42:36 Friday October 2 98
Yeah. My 2 yr old cousin could have written it.
Dmitry at 20:2:45 Friday October 2 98
Has anyone heard From Rush Hour With Love by Republica?

Greg. at 21:42:22 Thursday October 1 98
Are you people slagging Gomez off to be ironic for the sake of it, beacuse they've just got some recognition. 'Get myself arrested' is superb.
HeadCleaner at 8:38:52 Wednesday September 30 98
Drum n bass isn't exactly my forte, but the places where it has crossed over into the more traditional indie scene have always sounded pretty good. They're mainstream I know, but the likes of Tricky, Goldie and Bjork's experimentation with beats have usually impressed me. As well as that, there's the subtler incorporation of drum n bass-style beats into all areas of popular music now; it's a lot more common to hear shades of the style in everything from mainstream pop to rock guitar bands. It's probably the closest this decade's had to a "movement" to call its own.
andrew at 21:42:45 Tuesday September 29 98
actually, drum 'n' bass can be very good. 4 hero got it right because they explored the two sides of it that actually appeal to people - cd 1 is a jazz/d&b/orchestral thing dripping with gorgeousness and incredible tracks like starchasers, escape that and the action, whilst cd 2 abondons all melody and creates some of the best fucked-up rhythms anywhere this year, especially on we who are not as others and in the shadows. beats gomez, put it that way. check out the photek album as well.
Rowan at 19:5:53 Tuesday September 29 98
God I hate drum'n'bass..how monotanous
Avi P at 20:10:7 Monday September 28 98
I've just heard the 4 hero album 'two pages' and the first CD is bloody amazing. It's an interesting fusion between soulful jazz and drum'n'bass. The second CD is more Hardcore drum'n'bass and is harder to get into. My favourite track is 'escape that'. As far as emotion and intelligence goes 4 hero kick Gomez right out of the frame. I think 4 hero should definitely have won the Mercury Music prize.

It is indeed, and will likely get SOTW when I put the reviews up. I still have a bit of a problem with Molko, and his voice, however...
Rowan at 14:36:42 Monday September 28 98
The placebo single is pretty cool...
HeadCleaner at 13:5:27 Monday September 28 98
Though I shall do my best, this week's single releases will probably be delayed. There's bog all out this week anyway...
Guy at 0:11:15 Saturday September 26 98
Just your opinions hey Jim? Just bought albums by Theaudience, Warm Jets, Eels and Garbage. All excellent after a few listens, except Warm Jets which is thoroughly disappointing, but again, it might grow on me. Andrew you were right regarding the Eels album as well. Don't know what you're on about with the Manics' album though- I was in a music shop the other day and it was playing- it sounded excellent. Incidently I start uni on Monday, so this'll be my last message 'till then. See ya.
HeadCleaner at 20:42:58 Friday September 25 98
Eels on TOTP were fab. I shall get the LP now...PJ was cool also - what was that bloke playing as accompaniment?? Looked like a Stylophone! (Oh dear, showing my age again...)
HeadCleaner at 0:57:57 Friday September 25 98
Dammit Jim, I gave you sweet lovin' just half an hour ago.
Greg. at 22:40:45 Thursday September 24 98
Jimbo. You are obviously a very angry person, but let's face it, you're problem is not with us. We have no conflict. Bye!
Mylene F. Jenius at 22:36:21 Thursday September 24 98
Actually Jim, sweetie, the Belle and Sebastian one was called Lazy Line Painter Jane. In your own words "you thick twat".
BTW, what does fuicking mean?
andrew at 21:14:22 Thursday September 24 98
hi jim. you sound like a really nice bloke. now piss off
Jim at 19:47:8 Thursday September 24 98
YOU STUPID FUICKING CUNTS....
BELLE & SEBASTIAN "Lazy Line Painter" = 1/10
BETA BAND "Push It Out" (actually its called Los Amigos Del Beta Bandidos you thick twats) = 1/10
Hello - what planet are you on?
These bands are fucking ace, and the singles/EP deserve slightly more than that somehow.
Get back to your fucking Spice Girls (10/10) and Aqua (9/10)
YOU PATHETIC LOSERS
HeadCleaner at 18:36:42 Thursday September 24 98
I did see that - it was a damn fine programme. I'm not sure what was going on with Black Dog at the end, right enough. It didn't look quite like a full-blown big budget video (the film stock was more similar to tv) - it looke dmore like a special recording for a music prog like Later With Jools or something similar. "Nobody Loved You", "Tsunami" or "You Stole The Sun From My Heart" are the most obvious single choices to me...
Rowan at 18:17:59 Thursday September 24 98
Woh! I disagree whole-heartedly about the manics album being boring. Tracks like 'ready for drowning', 'nobody loved you' and 'the everlasting' are just as good as anything from 'everything must go' (although the holy bible is my favourite manics album). Did anyone see the manics doco? Was that a promo video of 'black dog...' at the end? Surely that won't be a single!??!
andrew at 21:57:37 Wednesday September 23 98
the eels album is wonderful once you get used to it. i've had it on constant rotation all week and it just gets better and better. unlike the manics album - excluding 'little empire' and 'born a girl,' the rest is boring as shit. i'm gonna have to sell it to someone.
Guy at 1:15:46 Wednesday September 23 98
Yeah, I got the new Eels album as well. It seems that they tried to overload it. There are about 8 good tracks and 8 shit tracks. If they'd just made it a 12 track album it wouldn't have been so bad. Still, the first one had to grow on me. "Oh Mr Hankey the christmas poo, he loves me and I love you..." Just thought I'd make my contribution. And for once (drum roll, shock... horror...) I agree with all of Keith's single reviews! Apart from Terrorvision. I thought it was better than that myself.
Greg. at 22:7:13 Tuesday September 22 98
the eels single 'Last stop this town' was good, but genuinely heartbreaking, as is the whole album. E has not had a good time of it.
andrew at 19:29:45 Tuesday September 22 98
mylene. correct. ash are bloody ace. incorrect. the new single is not. yes, south park vids are ace. no, paying £35 for them is not.
Rowan at 18:33:14 Tuesday September 22 98
Sheesh, didn't realise it was £35! My mates got them all on cd anyway (no, i don't mean just the sounds).
Rowan at 18:33:6 Tuesday September 22 98

Andrew. U twat. Ash are bloody ace as is their new single. South Park vids are also ace. So nyah.
Me. at 22:28:53 Monday September 21 98
Look out for the Mantra feature in the forthcoming Merseymart & Star, with mugshots and not at all cheesy quotes e.g. 'It felt wierd seeing ourselves on t.v.'
Greg 'Baby I gave you sweet lovin' just half an hour ago' O'Keeffe. at 22:16:59 Monday September 21 98
Ash wanna be The Ramones. That's not necessarily a bad thing, especially if they expand on the dj, scratching element. CD UK is soooo shit. TOTP is a national institution.
andrew at 20:49:21 Monday September 21 98
the new ash single - two chords a good song doth maketh not. terrible really innit? try the new eels album instead. oh, and the south park videos are the biggest rip-offs ever - six episodes in a box set for 35 quid. think about it - 6 episodes is about two and a half hours viewing - the length of one long film, which you can buy on video for about 15 quid. so how they can justify 35 ~35!!!!!~ quid for that is beyond me. i won't be buying it.
Rowan at 20:30:16 Monday September 21 98
Don't suppose you have a video copying machine? I like the delgados actually although now XFM has gone shit i havn't heard the new single.
HeadCleaner at 10:0:6 Monday September 21 98
I'm going down to South Park, gonna have myself a time...I'm going down to Virgin, gonna buy myself the South Park vids which are out today...
Guy at 0:24:3 Monday September 21 98
Hey Hey Hey! I'm a big Southpark fan as well- have you got the Christmas Poo song? I have! Regarding TOTP- I know it's always been a load of shit but it's not normally THAT bad. That show on Saturday Mornings (CD:UK) hosted but pants and dicks is the same- but I won't critisise too much 'cos they both had Silver Sun on- I CAN'T WAIT for that gig (Oct 17th).
Rowan at 20:28:8 Sunday September 20 98

'Kyle's mums a bitch she's a big fat bitch, she's the biggest bitch in the whole wide world....' Sorry. Mylene> have you seen the 'mr hats hellhole' website? I just downloaded that song.
Rowan at 12:15:37 Sunday September 20 98
Keith> why don't you start an e-mail based mail-ring group thing. Go to: http://www.egroups.com/index.html
Mylene F. Jenius at 19:0:57 Saturday September 19 98
Yes, South Park is also DAMN ace and v. funny.
Oooh, look, Rowan and I agreed! amazing!
Rowan at 18:24:49 Saturday September 19 98
Speaking of cartoons/comics - isn't south park just totally fantastic!
Mylene Jenius at 12:52:22 Saturday September 19 98
Yes, UY is indeed a comic/manga in Japan, also released here, Europe, America...many places. It was also made into a very long-running animated series, released over here on video. I lurrrve it and couldn't believe it when I saw a band named after it!!
Rowan at 11:14:48 Saturday September 19 98
TOTP has been shit for a considerable amount of time I think you'll find.
Guy at 1:10:43 Saturday September 19 98
Ha Ha Ha! Just seen TOTP recorder earlier today. What a load of Shit!
HeadCleaner at 21:17:47 Friday September 18 98
I agree with Rowan on Gomez - they're a bit too studied and chin-strokingly smug to be brilliant...it was good to see a band of comparitively unknown status get the prize mind. And yeah, Urusei Yatsura is a manga series/comic in Japan (I think - unless my mate's been bullshitting me again! Mylene?)
Rowan at 21:15:51 Friday September 18 98
Gomez - nah, really dull. I didn't really say that the chord structure was bad, it's just boring, oasis style. Ok, maybe I was taking about the chord structure. 'Urusei yatura' is a comic isn't it?
HeadCleaner at 21:5:27 Friday September 18 98
Pair of cheeks, more like...Robbie the Bond girl - nice one!
GreG at 21:1:54 Friday September 18 98
Oh yeah, Robbie Williams in a dress. The cheek!!
GREG O'KEEFFE. at 21:0:53 Friday September 18 98
Please you credit me with far too much intelligence. It wasnae me, I pride myself on my Spanish but Japanese??
The Silver sun song is good, and I do think it's a bit picky to mention it's chord structure. I'm not in the mood for depressing music so the msp album won't be in my collection. Finally WELL DONE to Gomez for their Mercury win, they deserve it.
HeadCleaner at 20:42:49 Friday September 18 98
It was me said it...it's a fair cop, the game's up...I've got a Japanese friend told me that's what it meant (noisy people) - they must've misheard me (or decided to tell me bollocks). Welcome back, by the way.
Mylene F. Jenius at 20:30:28 Friday September 18 98
ARSE! I mean to put a quote in there. It was meant to be
in reference to the quote that Greg (??) made about Urusei Yatsura meaning noisy people in Japanese and then saying "as I'm sure Mylene would tell you if she were here". There's my tiny amount of reputation out the window...
Mylene F. Jenius at 20:28:50 Friday September 18 98
BACK BACK BACK BACK BACK
Sorry for my absence! My phone broke :(
Anyway, this was said by some bloke: <
No I wouldn't! It's Japanese for 'Those Obnoxious Aliens", with the word Urusei being a pun on Uresei (stupid). So nyah.

Full Manics LP review up now...
Rowan at 19:0:6 Wednesday September 16 98
Got the Manics LP today and apart from a few songs I'm not sure about (symm, stole the sun...) I think its really good! I've only listened a couple of times but I already find it excellent. Nicky's lyrics are nowhere near as interesting as richey's and in some cases a bit cringe worthy, but the album on a whole is at least a 4 out of 5 job. I've just booked my tickets for december.
Rowan at 18:59:20 Wednesday September 16 98

Er, I've changed me mind...that Manics LP's grown on me something amazing. It's class.
HeadCleaner at 8:49:18 Wednesday September 16 98
I must admit that - for once(!) - I agree with Guy...for me, what a song sounds like is way more important than how it's crafted, and the Silver Sun single does indeed rock.
Guy at 1:7:40 Wednesday September 16 98
Re: Silver Sun- Well if you're going to dissect it into a piece of music then be like that. All I care about is the fact that they rock! Re: Manics- I haven't got it, but the last single took time to grow on me (about 3 weeks!), so you never know! TITF has been updated. New album reviews and articles. Sorry for being so cheeky Keith but I'm still getting that mailing list sorted. And hey, I got a message from James Broad- they ARE going to play Leicester after all! He said to expect the best gig of my life and appoligised for the cock-up even though it wasn't his fault! Cool hey?
HeadCleaner at 22:11:40 Tuesday September 15 98
Talking of dull, that new Manics LP doesn't exactly set the turntable alight does it? I thought it might be a grower, but it's quite an effort sitting through it...which is a shame. Full review onsite tomorrow or Thursday night...
Rowan at 20:41:28 Tuesday September 15 98
No, Silver Sun are the dying remnents of Britpop and they're shit. Dull, unimaginative guitar work (I.e boring major chords which are incredibly dull)
Guy at 13:15:23 Tuesday September 15 98
You obviously haven't heard it enough Rowan. It's the best track ever(I know I've said that before but who cares?). I suppose it was a fair review Keith, but I can't say I'm a big fan of PJ Harvey. I was so looking forward to hearing 'I'll See You Around' live, but that's not gonna happen anymore unless they play Northampton Uni. How come you didn't review Dodgy or Eeels Keith? Again, both great songs.
Rowan at 21:18:10 Monday September 14 98
That'll be fun lovin' crims. Silver suns track is crap.
Anon at 20:36:15 Monday September 14 98
'Can't you see, can't you see.. that I got a supermodel on my d.' name the tune/band.
Greg. at 19:20:3 Sunday September 13 98
What do people think of Silver sun's latest offering 'I'll see you around.' I kinda like it. Anybody heard anything by Delakota??
Guy at 17:44:52 Sunday September 13 98
Only heard that SOTW week by Sleater Kinney on the Mark and Lard show. Sounds v.good though! Bloody Leicester Charlotte (top local gig venue) has postponed all gigs until October 30th- Why? 'cos some tosser's found some ancient bones or something in the area they were building trhe extension on to- thoroughly exciting (not) but why cancel the Silver Sun gig I've got tickets for? The one thing I was looking forward to this year...
Rowan at 20:39:54 Thursday September 10 98
The famous embrace syndrome rears its ugly head again. (can I say that now that mylene has gone?)
andrew at 19:58:29 Thursday September 10 98
much as i liked 'one more hour' by sleater-kinney, i am slightly put off by them due to the unfortunate fact that they appear to have a sheep on lead vocals. i mean, the songs are alright, but who told her she could sing?
Rowan at 19:15:25 Thursday September 10 98
oops did it again
Rowan at 19:14:53 Thursday September 10 98
Ok, so they sound cool, but imagine the quiet-bit-noisey-bit greatness that would ensue from a bass player in a band of sleater kinney's ilk. I just think that in the long run they should get one.
Rowan at 19:14:48 Thursday September 10 98

HeadCleaner at 11:35:10 Thursday September 10 98
I beg to differ...a band could be comprised of a zither and someone playing the spoons - as long as it sounded great, I wouldn't care. Sleater Kinney sound great.
Rowan at 23:26:12 Wednesday September 9 98
I know the person who wrote this weeks letter of the week in melody maker. You are amazed. Aren't you? Sleater Kinney don't work 'cos they don't have a bass player. You CAN'T not have a bass player (chapter 5, line 17 - Rowan's rules of popular music (tm) )
HeadCleaner at 22:53:22 Wednesday September 9 98
That's good enough for me, Clare...theaudience are this year's Sleeper. Expect the word "theaudiencebloke" to enter the music press's vocabulary any day now. Although theaudience are ok, they just sound a bit too dated for my liking. Gimme Lodger and Sleater Kinney any day. Urusei Yatsura (Japanese for "noisy people" as Mylene would no doubt tell you if she hadn't done a runner - where you gone Ms Jenius?) are the dog's nads, and the best thing to come out of Glasgow since the M8. Greg - you are Aaron Carter. Guy - not yet, but you never know...
clare at 22:13:5 Wednesday September 9 98
v cool
erm,...that's it really!
Greg at 23:6:42 Tuesday September 8 98
Just call me Aaron Carter.
Rowan at 19:46:33 Tuesday September 8 98
You should get the first UY album. I must admit the new theaudience single (is that right???) is VERY catchy.
Guy at 1:4:50 Tuesday September 8 98
Greg has a crush on everyone! Sophie, that Aqua girl!... Again Rowan, although I haven't heard much Urutsai Yatsura (or whatever), I've not been overly impressed with them. As for saying I haven't given Radiohead a chance- Have you heard "A Pessamist is Never Disappointed" by Theaudience, andsome of their other stuff? I doubt it... Anyway, it's only my opinion at the end of the day. I always seem to disagree with Keith, but he hasn't kicked me off here. Yet...
Rowan at 21:21:27 Monday September 7 98
Bit o' a crush on her then greg.
Greg. at 20:29:59 Monday September 7 98
Keith I've missed my reviews, I had to go to NME. Don't know much about theaudience, although 'I know enough' is ace. Although I really doubt whether Sophie Elis Baxtor 'doesn't get enough.'
HeadCleaner at 19:19:44 Monday September 7 98

Rowan at 12:28:41 Sunday September 6 98
Sorry for doing that twice
Rowan at 12:27:39 Sunday September 6 98
Wash your mouth out with soap. Theuadience are boring. Urusei Yatsura on the other hand....Also, how can you give the radiohead album 1/5. It's obvious you never really gave it any chance (I admit a lot of the songs seem quiet and boring at first). Don't you even like any of the tracks?

Welcome back Guy. Due to college I don't have time to do my idlewild site. Colin (drummer) practically begged me to continue it and said something about paying me!

Yep I got the letter! And the even better news is: THE IMAGINATIVELY TITLED FANZINE is now available @ http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pit/7985/index.html , it's re-designed and now a work of art (even if I do say so myself!). Still not as good as this one though! PLEEAAASE contact me with some feedback...

The Imaginatively Titled Fanzine is Moving! I'll be located at xoom now with a distiguished new look and new features galore. Should be available by the end of the month- and I mean it this time!

Never fear Walshy's here! Yes I'm back. And by a cruel twist of fate I now have the internet at home. But I haven't got much to say at the minute, so I'll bugger off for a bit until I find something interesting to say. Oh yeah- say the Hollioakes performance Greg, came across very well!

~eh? does this message board have to die just because keith isn't here? no! it doesn't. so i'll make a load of random comments that have some vague things to do with music, and people that come here can respond to them. great idea. right. ~thanks for signing the XFM petition if you did, if you didn't, go and do it now [http://www.netcomuk.co.uk/~nsheff/xfm/index.html]~ ~the UNKLE album is work of genius, particularly 'nursery rhyme' featuring the badly drawn boy~ ~the new belle and sebastien album is also fantastic~ ~nick drake is god~ ~the new robbie williams single is the best pop music single this year~ ~the baby bird album is surprisingly good and everyone should buy it~ ~the nme is a pretentious waste of £1.10~ ~that's it. get writing.
