Letter of the Week (i.e. it's the only one so far)
I've just read your reviews and single of the year....SPOT ON!!!
It's great to read stuff from people who evidently give a shit about
music as opposed to the chin stroking, music fascists of some
magazines I could mention.
Thanks also for the Feeder and Headswim interviews (er...what Feeder
and Headswim interviews? - HeadCleaner), although I want
to point out that since I actually like Headswim's older stuff, I
seem to be in the minority. I don't there's any thing wrong with
'Flood' and I'm fed up with people , including Dan Glendinning
himself, cussing down that album!
I have a few suggestions and requests for interviews and features I'd
love to see.
1) Can you do an interview with Terrorvision? I know you didn't like
'Bad Actress' (you sinners) But they're a good band who are
entertaining and not up their own arses unlike some of the prats
I read about doing the rounds at the moment. If you do interview
them, ask WHAT is going on with the new album?
2) Please expand the section where you cussed those Teletubbies.
It's about time some one had WORDS!!!
3) Can you do a review of the posthumous Tim Buckley album ? I saw it
in the shops and I want an honest opinion on it before I shell out
some of my dwindling student grant on it. Ta!!
4) Another suggestion for the cussing section- Crispian Mills!!!
5) On the subject of music in general, I haven't really been grabbed
by anything of late to make me want to part with my money. Well,
not really. Everyone seems to be into a myriad of bands that I don't
get to hear or if I do , I don't give a monkeys about. I read about
them and I don't want to hear them. I know this is bad. I try to
listen with as open a mind as possible but I find I have little
patience with the stuff I hear either on the radio or in the club,
which tends to be very mainstream mediocre pap.
Put it this way, this year I've been listening mostly to Puccini....I
want to find something new but I am increasingly cynical and jaded.
Do other people feel the same way about music at the moment? I'd like
to know.
6)I've noticed that a lot of people that I know are into some types of
music because THEY THINK IT MAKES THEM ALTERNATIVE!!! When they
actually find out that you differ from their mindset, their opinion
drastically changes. I remember being told that I was odd for
listening to metal, classical, indie, pop, dance....they actually
thought it was strange that I didn't listen to one type of music. I
am starting to lose patience with people like this!!!!!!
Sorry for wittering on like this, but I have a lot of questions that
I want answers to!
Keep up the good work! I love your site!
Love from Davina, South Yorkshire

HeadCleaner replies:
Davina - thanks for the letter and the kind words - you can witter this way anytime
(even if it looks as though you got this zine mixed up with another...)
To address your points in turn:
- I'll track down Terrorvision and see if they're willing. I'd forgotten they
existed...
- I was planning on doing another HeadShot but wasn't sure
who to have words about.
- This wasn't on my list of LPs to buy to be honest, so I don't know if I'll be able to
do this for you. As you may have noticed, HeadCleaner's LP review section is a little...er...sparse.
This is mainly due to me being a lazy git, but also cos I find LP reviews quite hard to write.
I'll make an effort and do some more. If I can be bothered.
- Now I know who to have words about: I hear the sound of twats.
- What, nothing? There's been some interstellar stuff out this year - try Idlewild, Ultrasound, Lodger, Warm Jets, Young Offenders. Puccini I feel lost
his way after that tricky third LP...
- Indie snobbery makes me seethe. I thought alternative music meant you could
like what you wanted to. If anyone tells you that you're odd again, kick them
up the arse and tell them I said it was ok.
