| CARBISDALE DEERSKINS are the tanned hides of the wild red and sika deer which roam the Highland hills
in tens of thousands. Every year a cull, supervised by the Red Deer Commission, is allowed without which the deer
would outgrow their food supply.
The cull keeps numbers steady and the condition of the deer healthy. They are culled by sportsmen from all over the world and by professional keepers on the estates. The venison is sold by licensed game dealers to the home and European market.

Most of our deerskins will, therefore, have bullet holes in them, or be damaged by inexpert flaying, by the stags fighting for their harems, or by parasites such as the warble fly. There is no such thing as a perfect deerskin. We therefore frequently have lower priced damaged skins available.
|
CARBISDALE DEERSKINS SHOULD NOT BE WASHED, BUT SHOULD BE VACUUM CLEANED OR SPONGED WITH WARM WATER AND DETERGENT
|
They are not particularly hardwearing, because their hair is brittle, but will last for many years if used to decorate a corner or an area where there is not much traffic. They are popular as wall-hangings, and used in this way, last a lifetime. |
