ACCUPUNCTURE
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture works by
stimulation of acupuncture points from penetration of the skin by small gauge,
metallic needles, which is manipulated manually or by electrical stimulation.
These needles vary in length, width and shape of the head.
Cupping is another method of stimulation of acupuncture points. This is done by
applying suction through a plastic, wood or glass jar, in which a partial vacuum
has been created. This technique, by producing warmth to the specific area,
relaxes the muscles and helps relieve various body aches such as low backache,
sprains and soft tissue injuries.
Another adjunctive therapy often used is Moxibustion. This involves the burning
of special herbs over the affected area to warm it. Acupuncture and Moxibustion
are considered complimentary and commonly used together.
