FANS who packed into the Hull Arena were treated to two hours of pure talent by WET WET WET. I have to admit, ten years ago I was one of many teenagers whose bedroom walls were plastered with posters of Marti Pellow, then a spikey - haired singer with a cheeky grin. Then I was a huge fan of WET WET WET but as the years moved on my taste in music changed. Having heard their latest album and the change in their music I was concerned last nights concert would feature their new material. But when Marti and the band made their entrance on the stage, it was like I had gone ten years back in time. Marti, in his black suit with grey satin shirt, took the sell - out crowd on a trip through the music which had made them famous over the last decade from their first single "Wishing I Was Lucky" to the more recent chart hit "Strange" and the " Four Weddings And A Funeral" hit, "Love Is All Around". The Glasweigian singer strutted around the stage, almost arrogantly but the cheeky, little boy grin was never far away. For nearly two hours his strong powerful voice captivated the audience who screamed for more and he was brilliantly backed up by the rest of the band. The show was slick, polished and almost flawless - except for the moment when Marti forgot the first line to "East Of The River". But as a true pro he picked it up on the second line and carried on like nothing had happened. As the band came back for the encore Marti exclaimed he would come back to Hull. And I'm sure the audience would say the sooner the better. |
