Gig Report - The Malt House, Berkeley 29/07/05

This gig was in aid of Berkeley Primary School swimming pool fund. The evening started off with a visit from a couple of Polish punk chaps over for the Joust Festival. They said they had seen the gig poster and a huge drum kit being loaded off the back of a lorry earlier in the day and were checking out the gig was on. We claimed responsibilty for the poster, pointed out that our drum kit could be loaded out of your top pocket and they said "we'll be seeing ya later". Sure enough a group of up for it Polish punks mixed it up with the excellent local crowd in what turned out to be one of our best gigs yet. Much thanks goes out to buddies Nick Clarke and Dave Lamb for guarding the PA speakers as the lively dancing would have surely knocked them flying. For the chap disappointed we didn't play 'Too Drunk To Fuck' we promise to include it in the setlist on our next trip down Berkeley way.

Some serious air guitar.

Gig Report - The Ridge & Furrow, Abbeydale, Gloucester 17/04/05

Really good night this one in established decent live venue. "Play some Pistols" some punters were demanding before we'd even plucked a note!!! We happily cracked-off 'Holidays in the Sun' and this set the tone for the rest of the gig which included hippy dancing to the Clash (thanks Roz!) and bare chested moshing to the Pistols and Dead Kennedys. There was even pogo-ing by normally mild mannered people to the between set CD!!! We look forward to another boozy night of punk classics in here again me 'earties.

Gig Report - Charity Music Night, The Royal Oak, Wotton-Under-Edge 25/02/05

A big thanks to everybody that came and to the landlord of The Royal Oak. An good fun night out with lots of drinking and dancing. Read a snippet from the Dursley Gazette article (which fails to mention the stuffing of £10 notes down underpants, but we won't go into that!!!): "Sounds of the late 1970s and early 80s filled the Royal Oak in Wotton-under-Edge on Friday when punk rockers Kosmik Overdrive took to the stage. The gig was in aid of the North Nibley Romania Team, and the £227 raised will be used to help patients at a remote psychiatric hospital north of the city of Brasov in the former Eastern Bloc nation. The Kosmik trio performed tracks from groups as diverse as the Sham 69, the Sex Pistols and The Stranglers, along with a stunning rendition of the Department-S number 'Is Vic There?' to a packed pub."

Dave Kosmik Has Quick Nap Shocker!!!

As feared most people at this time of year are either skint or on detox so only a small splattering of party people on this Wednesday night at The Bristol. First set was a bit quiet so Dave Kosmik took the opportunity to have a quick nap whilst playing (see pic). Things livened up in second set tho and we even had a mover and a shaker on the dancefloor (cheers Nick!!!). Also the police have been informed about the disappearance of a 'No More Heroes' verse. We'll keep you posted....

UK Subs Singer Charlie Harper Seizes Photo Opportunity

Charlie Harper, singer with legendary punk band UK Subs, seized an opportunity to be photographed with Rik Kosmik at a recent UK Subs gig. Or should that be the other way around?. Anyway the pic was taken at the UK Subs gig in Gloucester Guildhall on 23 December 2004 where much Christmas spirit was consumed by the Kosmik posse. Long time Kosmik Overdrive cohort Bill Westall decided to do his Christmas shopping at the Subs t-shirt stand buying up many fashionable garments for the whole family!!! Needless to say he has since been rejected by his family and is now homeless.

Gig Report - The Boars Head, Berkeley 27/09/04

The final gig on our three date September world tour. This one was a charity do for a chappy in Berkeley who has been diagnosed with leukemia. The pub had organised a whole weekend of fun, music and cider and we have since heard they raised £1866 in total!! Despite exploding microphones the gig warmed up nicely after a slowish start. Much pogoing developed down the front especially to the Pistols and Ramones numbers. All in all a really good night especially when Stranglehold was requested again at the end....No problemo we cry..."1, 2, 3....4, 5, 6 gonna do a dance and it goes like this....".

Gig Report - The Bristol Hotel, Gloucester 25/09/04

Ahhh.....back to what we do best. Playing with our own kit again. It may be held together with the same stuff Aeroflot use to stop their planes falling apart but sure does do the biz. This turned out to be a good night in a really good venue. A wet Wednesday evening is always gonna be quiet but a few turned up and even stayed for the second set!!!! At the end of the evening the landlord insisted on paying us for our efforts even though we had agreed to do this one for free. Cheers!!!

Gig Report - The Welsh Harp 11/09/04

Playing on a house PA is not always a good choice for a fun night out. Despite the sound man saying that he had "headphones bigger than our powered monitor" thank-god we took it along. Monitoring ALWAYS seems to be a problem with our set-up and house PA's. Anyway enough of the techie stuff. Being first on of three bands we basically chewed up and spat out half an hours worth of punk classics to the usual rapturous applause. Pretty un-eventful night really.

Holiday in Cam and Dursley.

23-11-03.....The charity gig at the Mariners Arms in Berkeley on the 20th went well, a bit too well in places!!! At the end of the festivities it was announced that over £200 had been raised for the Berkeley Hospital Fund so a big CHEER for everyone who came along and dug deep into their pockets.

DJ Dave of Red-Shift discos got everybody warmed up with some classic Oi!, Punk and Rockola and we got the live music festivities underway at around 9.15pm. A few songs in and things were hotting up quite nicely with many people bopping about in what room was available. For the finale Rik Kosmik boiled over - smashing his guitar to the ending of Holidays in Cambodia. One punter thinking all of the kit was up for grabs picked up the smashed guitar and whacked one of our monitors down the front. Luckily not too much damage was done so.......you lucky people.....we will be back to get ya movin' and shakin' another day.......HOORAH!!!!!!

Stop looking at my horn! - Farmer Jack and Rik Kosmik drink up ye cider.

Exploited Covers at the Railway Inn- Whatever Next!

18-08-03.....Cam Cider festival was a real hoot. Don Stapleton warmed up the crowd with much organ trickery. Then Farmer Jack had everybody in stitches with a few risky jokes in between singing some Wurzels classics. Then it was our turn.......FART!!.......Opening up with a rip roaring 'New Rose' we never looked back. All seemed to go down a storm with one punter bribing us at the end with free cider to play 'New Rose' again. Needless to say we did the honours....CHEERS TO EVERYONE WHO GAVE US A CHEER!!!

Set List - New Rose - Borstal Breakout - Is Vic There - Lovesong - Dead Cities - Too Drunk Too Fuck - Hersham Boys - Neat Neat Neat - If The Kids Are United - White Riot - Hurry Up Harry - New Rose (requested again)

Is Vic There?

07-07-03.....Mike Herbage, guitarist with Department-S (who originally had a hit with Is Vic There? in 1981) sends an email to congratulate us on our cover version of the song! Read the email in full on the reviews page. Its a rather nice surprise to receive praise for a cover from the original artist. It has meant a great deal to all of us in the band and given us a lot of encouragement.

22-05-03.....Hey punks and punkettes, some new reviews to have a read at.

Kid Juxta Review

18-09-02.....A kindly chap called Steve Juxta, who appears with us on the excellent punk compilation album "Words Will Never Be Actions" has written a review of a Kosmik demo (called "Destruction") consisting of a few tracks we knocked up ourselves. Very favourable too.....and we didn't even pay him! Cheers Steve. Read the review here and check out Steve Juxtas own web site using the links button above.
