Turning to the ancient by-ways where possible, we pass RYDAL, DOVE COTTAGE(Wordsworth's Home 1799-1808), GRASMERE, DUNMAIL RAISE and THIRLMERE to KESWICK-ON-DERWENTWATER.
Reaching CASTLERIGG STONE CIRCLE, we wander where stone-age man exchanged stone axes amid ancien rites and ceremonies. Could it be a 5000-year old Market Place, a centre of a force field, a caalendar to indicate the seasons - WHO KNOWS!!??
Driving onward to legendary AIRA FORCE, we may have an opportunity to walk down to the waterfall (though it is NOT compulsory) and continue beside ULLSWATER where Wordsworth saw the famous Daffodils.
From PATTERDALE and little-visited HARTSOP we ascend KIRKSTONE PASS, Lakeland's highest road pass and slowly meander home through the traditional village of TROUTBECK past 17C working farms, bank barns and spinning galleries.
