LAKELAND SAFARI (TOURS) was set up in 1994 when the owner, GARETH BUTTERWORTH, a local Cumbrian man, became redundant after 30 years in the computer industry. Having no success in the job market, he decided to attempt a lifetime ambition of taking small groups on Motor Tours of the Lake District. Qualifying as a respected Blue Badge Guide recognised by the Cumbria Tourist Board in 1995, and helped by BETTY his wife, he now runs a successful business which is firmly established within the 'trips and tours' section of the Lakeland tourist industry.

Indeed, in 1998, LAKELAND SAFARI won the prestigious CUMBRIA FOR EXELLENCE AWARD for its contribution to TOURISM AND THE ENVIRONMENT here in the LAKE DISTRICT

LAKELAND SAFARI and the ENVIRONMENT

Within the Lake District, we have much of England's unique heritage encapsulated in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

This heritage spans aeons of history, from Pre-Historic Stone age Man through Celts, Romans, Vikings and Scottish Border Raiders to the mystic romanticism of the renowned Lake Poets - Wordsworth, Coleridge and Southey.
