Following the ancient Roman Road through GREAT LANGDALE and LITTLE LANGDALE, we climb into the high fells over the dramatic WRYNOSE and HARDKNOTT passes. Dropping steeply into ESKDALE, we pause at HARDKNOTT'S 2C Roman fort and drive to the attractive village of BOOT.
Accompanied by 'LAAL RATTY', the quaint narrow gauge railway, we descend the valley aand soon enter WASDALE to see Lakeland at its wildest and most magnificent. After viewing England's highest mountain (SCAFELL PIKE) and deepest lake (WASTWATER), we head seawards to GOSFORTH's unique 10C Viking Cross.
We continue to ENNERDALE aand LOWESWATER, probably Lakeland's least visited lakes. Our return home is via BASSENTHWAITE, KESWICK and GRASMERE.
